Sean, thanks. Was really worried about slowing down on those icy roads...!

We love the winter. It brings peace and calm (especially at the campgrounds) and winter sports. Sort of like a reset button. Here's a couple pics of previous winter trips just for fun. I felt a tad bit guilty of the luxury this time out in the trailer. But I'll get over that just fine... 8-)[/p][p]

Those trips remind me of my guiding days out on the trails...
It was never that bad, but I do remember a night where we went to bed and everything was normal. No predicted weather, just the cold. Then we wake up to at least a foot of snow on the ground. That was fun :)

Oh, a Guide? Patience of a Saint, senses of a Grizzly and skills beyond belief. That MUST have been fun with the right clientele. Often times I'll try to pick the snow storms to get out into but I'm 49 now. Time to grow up so she says... hence the trailer.

Ha, yeah thats why I compromised and we settled on the pop up. With a little one (well 3 years old now) running around we wanted to make life a bit easier but we werent ready to go to a full trailer yet.

The guide days were interesting, I mostly guided introductory trips for 20 somethings so it was like herding cats sometimes :) No one knew what they were in for so of course I had the pleasure of packing in twice as much gear simply because I knew something would be left behind. Its was as reliable as the sun each morning. I cant wait until the little one gets old enough to go on a real backpacking trip. I also had the pleasure of doing a decent amount of rock climbing (mostly top roping for the intro trip), some sea kayaking and caving, and my colleagues even convinced me to go on a whitewater kayak trip. I miss those days, they were far too long ago and life tends to get in the way too quickly these days.

What would we give to have our youngest 3 years old again?  Just thinking aloud...sorry.

I was guided once as a kid by a pro. I felt so dang useless it lit a fire under me. It was in Maine on a hunt with my Dad. He was probably a guides worst nightmare come to think of it!

My youngest is my son. He's 22 now. There is no substitute for dirt time. In the beginning (6 maybe?) I carried all his stuff for him. Then as he surpassed me in stamina I loaded him up with all my old heavy gear that I upgraded from....as a "gift" just so I can keep up!

Here's my kid last summer on some hurricane damaged trail in NH. The trail was closed but we had no option at that point in our 3 night journey. Fording that washed out river was on of the hardest, most technical, things I've done. Nothing too scary like climbing so far.[/p][p]

This is time for GRANDCHILDREN! I told my sons to take care of themselves and the family jewels so we could have healthy grandkids. My granddaughter is 10 going on 20, and so smart it is scary. And she loves her grandma!
Located in Kentucky and Florida at present

We camped with another couple & all packed in their 1972 two door Datsun B-210 & drove 5 or 6 hours each way to Ocracoke Island NC. My Wife, Daughter & I camped in our pup tent. It was an interesting camping trip over 40 years ago!

You have done a fine job with your Son, Whoofit.  He is very blessed to have you as his Father.

We're tent camping at a KOA with our youngest, not yet potty-trained.  It's a hot day so we three head to the pool for a dip.  Oh sure, we laugh now remembering Hubby nosediving for elusive turds on the bottom.  Wasn't too funny at the time...me, afraid we'd be found out; Hubby...well you can understand why he wasn't laughing.  We couldn't take the Boy anywhere...he pooped all the time (or so it seemed!).

[p]WOW! You must know my April? She said as you did above with the same AUTHORITY even.... ;) I agree of course. But you can't blame a guy for working all the angles now can you?[/p][p]
[/p][p]I do hope for Grandkids some day. It appears we may have a wedding soon. My daughter graduated college with a boy she met there. She went into her field and he went to DC to study at Georgetown, and to become a man. He'll be finishing this year and they managed to stay together through the separation. So here's to hoping![/p][p]
[/p][p]Your Granddaughter sounds like she is the apple of your eye. I always like to hear these. Warms the heart.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Besides, Leslie, what's not to love about you, right?... 8-)[/p][p]
