QuickSilver Toy Haulers / Fridge underpowered?
June 07, 2015, 08:11:04 AM
I have noticed that the fridge in my VRV is slower to cool down than any other RV that I have had.  It must just be how they are.  If I plug it in 24 hrs before I leave it is just barely getting cold enough for food.  Of course, that's in Florida heat... The first time I used it I thought it was broken, I turned it on in the AM four or six hrs prior to use and the temps hadn't changed at all, the other rigs I have had would have shown some change by then, or so I thought...  The fridge has always worked well if you give it time to cool down though!

QuickSilver Mods / Upgrades / Thermostat?
April 05, 2015, 11:02:43 AM
[p]I have seen threads for those that have replaced the thermostat for the heater...  Has anyone added a thermostat that will control the A/C and the heater?[/p][p]
[/p][p]My A/C is currently only controlled by the knobs on the ceiling mounted A/C unit/bezel.  Much like the crappy heater thermostat, there is very little indication of what temperature you might get...[/p]

Having been in the military for the last 26 years I have learned my lesson over and over again when it comes to HOAs or in our case military housing Nazi-like inspectors with a vendetta for those with the slightest bit of grass growing in the cracks of the sidewalk or with the ruler and clipboard to measure and write-up people for the length of their grass (3.5" vs 3")... You think I'm kidding?  I HATE HOAs and I do mean HATE! I have been more or less forced to live in them off and on due to the need to be close to the base but once I retire I will never be subjugated again!  I understand those who are concerned that the guy next-door might change his oil or park his car in the lawn but I want to actually have some say over what I can do on my land and with my house.  If I park my RV in my driveway, I want it to be my decision, not yours!  When I choose the color or style of house I build I want it to be my decision, not yours!  What I want to bind me are the laws of the land not the whims of the retired busybody down the street with nothing better to do than to find something wrong with me!
Sorry, I just fell off the soapbox...

[span style="font-size:10pt;"]

It is a proven door that has been in the industry for years.  If you ever do have problems, the door can easily be replaced.  It is nothing like removing a floor, wall, or roof.  So, Livin Lite still maintains the solid structure of the main trailer.  I do agree that they were wrong in stating "no wood" in their toy haulers.  We looked like idots when we discovered it. [/span]

However, it is still about the best unit built out there.
I think this is a very fair assessment, but I think everyone would be better off if they included some kind of disclaimer about where wood products are used. They already have a disclaimer at the bottom of their site that includes some of this:
Quote* Obviously, the "entire" camper is not aluminum. The vast majority of the main construction components of this camper are made of aluminum and composites, which backs up our claim of being 98% recyclable. There are steps and stabilizer jacks made of steel; composite wall and ceiling boards; and plastics used in trim, tanks and bath areas.
They might as well state that there is wood in the door or the countertop because folks will find out sooner or later.
Agreed!  They should mention that there is wood in all the places they put it, including a sheet of plywood under the shower...  There really isn't a reason to be deceptive, it's still a great rig!

General Q & A / MPG

My 2014 supercharged 4X4 Tacoma Double Cab gets about 12-13 mpg pulling at 60 - 65 on flat ground.

QuickSilver Toy Haulers / VRV 720 cargo door

The no wood claim is not true, at least in a few cases.

My 2012 has wood under the shower and in the tip out doors...  I'm not sure about the ramp door.

I bought it specifically due to the "no wood" description.  I'm still quite happy with the purchase since there isn't much to compete with a VRV.

New Members / Hello from Tillsonburg
November 25, 2014, 11:00:09 PM
I looked really close at the XTRs, at least on line and compared the specs.  I would have bought the XTR if I had found a used one.  They appeared to have slightly higher end components like the shower, counters, faucets, sinks, etc.  The LivinLites have a better dealer network... All of this is just my impression form personal research on the internet, I have not been able to physically walk through both.  I found a nice used LL VRV and bought it, no real regrets.
