QuickSilver Mods / Upgrades / . A/C mods on my 8.1

Very helpful Tim!!  Thank you very much.  I would love to have an exterior door on my 8.1 that could mostly hold the leveling blocks etc, but occasionally hold an A/C unit.    I will see if a local dealer can do the outdoor panel and I might attempt your mod on the inside.

The other photos / discussions were great too.  Appreciate it!

I went to a custom foam place and had foam mattresses cut to size.  They are super-comfy!!  Then I sewed covers for them, including an overlapping edge to cover the freezing cold hinges in the morning!  Works amazing.  The mattreses that came iwth my 8.1 I took apart.  Inside was some nice stuffing.  I used that to top my son's horrible mattress at home.  The mattress covers that came with the 8.1 had some sort of stiff cardboard like feel to them, I couldn't find a reuse for them so they were chucked.

Wish I had a rear deck!!  If you can get that, I'm sure it would be worth it.

Also added a foam floor, covered by vinyl; DC fan; lots of stacking bins that we pack clothes into instead of luggage bags, ziptied hooks onto sides of bins; large mat for outside of camper to wipe sheet before coming in; DC cooler; tool box.

One time one bimimi pole actually unscrewed itself jiggling around on the road.  Tool box was very handy.

Good luck!

Thank you for posting this!  Can I ask a question or two?  I live in Ontario and have little use for AC, but I have been thinking of a California trip.. :) :) :)

Did the dealer install the outside door on your QS 8.1 as part of the original A/C installation?  Mine has no door, which is a constant problem for setting up.

Where did you get the panel to replace where you took the cabinet door from?

Thanks!

QuickSilver Pop Ups / Fridge/Cooler for 8.1
August 05, 2014, 10:15:18 AM
We use a Mobi-cool DC powered cooler.  It is small, but it handles all the important stuff... A cooler bag with an icepack can handle things like fruit or yogout that don't go bad without constant refridgeration.  We plug it into the van while driving, and then we bought a long extension cord and an AC/DC converter that goes into it, so that we can have the cooler outside, under our tarp, in our 'kitchen' during the day.  At night we bring it into the QS 8.1 and plug it in.  Works very well for us!

Hope this is helpful.
