Unexpected camp night

The ice storm knocked power out for about 24 hours.  I got cold and bored.  Lite off the generator and stayed in the camper.  Nice & toasty.  Now I really cant wait for the 1st true camping trip.

Excellent! I wander into the camper every couple of days and try to think of things to do in there.

Sounds like a nice backup when the power is out!

There's many fine places to camp without electricity. We tried our Yamaha gen-set
out while camping on the Blue Ridge Parkway and worked fine!

That is one of my top reasons for wanting a true TT. I like the idea of having a self contained place to stay. Plus I think some insurance companies will offer a discount based on the fact that you have a second "residence" available to you.

[/quote]Great idea, Captain America....er, I mean Shovelhead!    Stay warm, put a sweater on Bella and know that we're all thinking and praying for you'ns north of us enduring the hardship of such cold temperatures.  It's the reason we individually wandered southwest-ward so many years ago...the 'Mr.' from Pittsburgh, the 'Mrs.' from Indianapolis (finally crossing paths in a dusty ol' Texas desert town now run by cartels BUT I digress!)  Brrrrrrrrrrr,  could NEVER go back north, (even though NEVER and ALWAYS are two words that shouldn't be used!)

In '04, after 3 back-to-back hurricanes, for us, the most difficult part was the post-storm stretch of time without power (9 days average per storm in our neck o' the woods) and in the hottest part of summer.  Without power for prolonged periods, women especially began looking different, that is, priority given to cosmetic stuff like make-up and hairstyling ceased.  To have the fridge, and just one fan run by a gas generator and a tile floor to lie upon was a blessing. When it got to be too much, relief was found sitting in the car for a precious few minutes with a/c on, just to catch our breath.  It was bad, IMO.  If ever such circumstances occur again, perhaps our LL Axx will afford us respite if we can power a/c and fridge via solar generation.  Waiting in gas lines on foot with multiple gas containers and angry people in '04 was sobering and eery.   Anyone know of or currently using an affordable turn-key solar generation system successfully that powers both LL a/c, and fridge?

Hey GW I'm  a Yinzer too.  Born raised in Dunbar, PA.  Lived all around Da'Burgh area.   My son still lives in New Brighton.   We moved to GA in 1993.   I cant handle cold like I use to.  Too many winters in PA and CT. and getting old.

[/quote]Sure thing.....  I've lived most of my life in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Connecticut but as they say by the grace of God I'm a Southerner.  Either that or a "Damn Yankee".

I'm a native Pittsburgh person too, born and raised although I now live in upstate NY.  Hope to get South soon.

One of the locations we worked at for a few years, was close to Lake Erie, but happy we transferred to NC before retirement.

So far have been interested in Helen & Blue Ridge GA areas. Fast Eddie is in North GA, too. Will start camping in N GA this year to
learn more about it. One report I read ranked GA is #4 in the US as most tax friendly states to retire in.

I like the ocean and have family in Wilmington so I'm gravitating that way but NC isn't so friendly anymore.

Mitch where in Pittsburgh area?  I'm from a little town (Dunbar) South of Da'Burgh.  I've lived in Monroeville, Zelienople, New Kennsington, New Salem PA.  I was a Navy brat as well spent a lot of my youth in Va. Beach, Windsor Locks & Groton, CT.

Exploringcarolina - Altough GA is pretty retiree friendly I am looking to RV 80% of my time and establish residency in SD.  SD is a bit more friendly with vehicle registration and no state income tax.  I'd like to find a place in GA to winter over.  Possibly an RV park in Helen that has small cabins and pads to park an RV.   Currently live in a 4br 3 bath home about a 40 minute drive South of Helen.  It's way too big for this old boy.

I grew up in Churchill, little borough near Monroeville and Penn Hills. I left in 1980 and was in the Army in Germany for a while then moved around a bit when I got back.

Met a couple that worked as Campground host around the nation, with residence @ South Dakota.

Saw one RV Campground you could purchase an RV lot around Mountain City & Dillard GA area. Don't remember
the RV park name.
