Cargo Door "Back Patio"?

Saw an option on a Work and Play unit where two cables and attachment points were installed to allow the cargo door to open down level with the floor, to create a "back patio' as an alternative to the entrance/awning area. Does anyone know if this can this be done on a LL? I have an Axxess 85X26.

Since we haven't taken possession of the unit just yet, I am still asking questions.  My poor Husband.  :( He should thank me (shouldn't he?)  :-X

My pre-purchase research showed me that all toy-haulers have wood in the doors. LL does not manufacture the doors. Doors are purchased from another manufacturer.

Tip-out bunk doors and the entry doors also contain some wood. It seems at the present time, this is all that is available.

Knowing this, I paid a lot of money for my Camplite 21-BHS because I will not have to worry about the floor or frame rotting or rusting out. Even if the camper should have a water leak somewhere, the structure will not be harmed. Bedding, clothes, etc. Would need drying out, but the structure is safe.

I put together a maintenance checklist. On it is a reminder to have the roof and all seams checked before my camper is a year old, so any reinforcing or patching will be done under warranty.

To follow up on our OP about using the cargo door as a "back patio", we contacted LL and, although they now have a back patio option on the "Ignite" model, the door and doorframe are a different configuration than on the Axxess, so the parts are not interchangeable. OK, so we went with a pretty simple solution - bought 2 adjustable jackstands with rubber cushion covers, to support the cargo door from beneath. So now we can put the cargo door down on the jack stands, level with the floor, and have a nice sitting area available when the weather and campsite are amenable. Well, yeah, there are no safety railings, but we'll take our chances on the risk of a 15 inch fall off the edges.

I store the jackstands, along with a 20-ton bottle jack, in the front compartment, so if we ever have a flat tire, we can lift and support our Axxess with them. Speaking of tires, found out the lug nuts require periodic torque checks - 120ft-lbs for 15 inch wheels - so a torque wrench is also needed for the traveling tool box.

Karen, Leslie and I were all quite enamored by the new CampLite "Ignite" Toy Hauler.

One had the tailgate down and supported as a railed "patio".

Did not get an exterior photo of it, but here it is looking back from the entry door:

After visiting our local RV show last weekend, it seems the "patio" feature is really being pushed by the manufacturers.  I have to admit that it is pretty cool!  I was also surprised by the number of 'sticks and staples' TTs that had a second half-bath with a separate outside door, even on the smaller trailers.  Only saw one lonely Camplite there...a 14DBS that was getting plenty of attention but no one from any of the dealers around to answer questions.

Fireman 27,
Thinking that this 'Toy Hauler' thread is the wrong one for a 28 BHS, a travel trailer.  Consider switching your appeal to the 'Wanted' thread towards the bottom of this proboard's home page.  Also, try 'RV Trader'; think I saw one there recently.   Nice, but not cheap.

We bought a 30 ft quicksilver toy hauler in Nov 2014.  Talked quite a bit to LL before we committed.  Asked Scott Tuttle about making the ramp into a deck.  He didn't like the cable idea, but suggested adjustable supports they could attach to the ramp.  We went with that and love it.  Two supports that fold against the ramp and fold down as you lower the ramp. Very easy to use and work perfectly.  Tried to attach a picture but said the file was too big.  If your interested in a picture and tell me how to attach I'd be happy to do it.   Scott also suggested an awning that would extend over the ramp, love that too. made the cables using supplies from ace hardware and picked up the mounting tracks from amazon.  having adjustable attachment points isnt necessary, but was piece of mind for cable stretch/etc.

Man oh man!!!!  Dude...you are something!  Wow, you've done what LL rep at factory told us would cost thousands of dollars!  For this reason, we resorted to a very simple solution for supporting the cargo door as a patio deck:  two jack stands!   Simple, cheap and easy but nowhere close to your brilliant fix.  Good job!  You've amped this 'toy hauler' thread up, for sure!

P.S.  Can't let the opportunity pass without saying it, may that Gadsen flag fly tall and free.  Party like it's 1776!
