[p]Just got back from having the bumper reinforced. He did a great job. Welded top, bottom every 12 inches and sides. [/p][p]
[/p][p]Kicked around the idea of a genny box that would be weather and road spray tight. One that can be permanently mounted topside on the bumper. One that has three fold-up sides and a fixed cover to allow operation while attached to the bumper and allow oil and filter changes every 20 hours without being removed. One that has vibration isolation built-in.[/p][p]
[/p][p]The candidate is my Honda EU2000i with propane conversion. I have already provided a low pressure line back there for it but have never taken it on a trip. May never need it either but AC may be nice on the hottest nights. I bought it for emergency preparedness reasons. It just sits in the shed all the time. Figure it might as well sit on the bumper of the trailer and act as a counterweight. Use when needed....fit a transfer switch an all.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Anyways, anyone seen a box like this or do I need to draft one for him to make?[/p]

Thanks for the link! I search this forum but never seem to come up with pertinent answers.

I must say that mod looks great! In my case I am hoping for something a little more compact. The genny is less than 12"W and I would rather keep it closer to the trailer body. As close as is possible for the sake of minimizing leverage.

Appreciate the tip, Merlin!

Well, after searching the web for all generator boxes, nothing seems to fit the bill. Time to dust off EasyCad and get busy I guess.

http://www.perfectcasita.com/gepr.html
[p]I like this base a lot. Guess I'd want something like this to build off of. With all the lines and wires coming from the box it'll be hard to hide the fact that it's a generator in there. The size is perfect![/p][p]
[/p][p]This is a new product since I bought the generator. Nice!

Hi folks,

This is Jim from Orbital Machine Works.  We make those generator bases.  A bump in web traffic on our site last night brought me to here..
I am not familiar with livinlite products (yet) as we are known more for our Casita products so excuse me if I am speaking out of term, but another method the Casita folks use for carrying generators is on the tongue.  for some ideas look at our flikr page https://www.flickr.com/photos/104805658@N06/   or consider this method http://www.perfectcasita.com/unovutpl.html
Note also that since we are the manufacturer we can modify those generator plates if required to suit your needs...

Thanks (and if this post is considered too commercial I will delete it!)

Jim
Speaking for myself I love the fact that you took the time out to post a possible solution on this forum and don't feel it's too commercial in the least.  You're offering a potential solution to an expressed issue, thanks and post all you like!

Jim
[p]Thanks for checking in, Jim. A question. I saw reference to the generator plate being tool steel. Is the mount plate tool steel as well? Most of us would need to mount this on a four inch bumper so some holes would be good there. With tool steel being difficult to drill I was wondering.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Also, what is the distance between the plates? You know, near the centerline on the long dimension. Some U-bolts from underneath the bumper would be a solution if the nuts would fit between plates.[/p][p]
[/p][p]A third, how much does the system weigh? I saw 6lbs for the genny plate only. [/p][p]
[/p][p]And, Welcome!

And thank you for your thanks.

The red top plate is made from 10 ga steel.
The tool steel you see referenced is on the underside adjacent the ring that goes around the padlock.
It is there to slow down somebody from cutting right across the red plate between the padlock and the generator.
This picture shows it on a Yamaha top plate [a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/104805658@N06/16224058581/in/dateposted-public/"]here[/a]

As to weights - on the Honda 2000 version:
Base plate 10.5#
top plate 6#
padlock 2.5#  for a total of 19#.

Base plate is 12 ga steel
Distance between the plates is exactly the height of the feet on the generator (about 0.8")
There is a bit more height available in the central area where there is no top plate.
That is where I assume you would be drilling to mount to your 4" bumper...

Cheers,

Jim

I for one would have no objection to having a handful of vendor-specific forums under the Ask The Factory section/

I would be interested in this setup when we get a generator. How do you access the LP tanks to refill them with the jack pole in the way? Our trailers would have to relocate the battery, as well. Nice product. I agree that there is a place for innovative products here that can be used on our LivinLites.

And since the Casitas have aft sleeping the genny in the front makes sense. Not so much for Camplites. Have you considered an enclosure as I describe above?
