How often do you go camping

I was just wondering how often people get to actually go out with their rig, no matter what type or size?  I'm going to but a travel trailer this year and I'm hoping to go out at least once a month, just to stay sane. ( that's the whole reason to buy the trailer.) I'm still working right now with just my wife, no kids or pets. I also wonder how often adult couples actually have people tag along with them camping?  Probably not as often as I would think. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Last year we got 11 weekends in from March to October. So not quite twice a month. Exigencies of work and other.

We thankfully have no room for tag-alongs in our trailer, but we did manage to coordinate one trip to the same campground with two other couples and their RV's.

It's not entirely fair since we are blissfully retired (but don't have much money): we bought our brand new custom Quicksilver 8.1 in 2010 and immediately set off on a long road trip, at least 6 weeks. Every season since we do a long, and longer road trip. This past 2014 season we were out a pretty incredible 99 days, in 30 different camps, in 16 states, and covered some 16,000 miles, sleeping every single night in our tiny "Cozy Rose." Camping is a lot cheaper than motels, even staying in established camps (we tend to favor KOA) for security, good bathrooms, and electricity. We're in our 70's so not having onboard facilities might be considered a challenge, but we like the ease of setup and takedown, the virtually zero maintenance, the relatively high gas mileage and so on. We have (ab)used Rose, designed as an "entry level weekender," yet she is still on her original tent. This year we had to make some repairs, replace a zipper, need a new AC converter, but overall she's been a really cheap date.

Proud owner of "Rose," 2010 QS 8.1, VERY heavily used (not a "weekender" at all), holding up GREAT!

How often do we camp?  Not nearly enough.  I love it more than my husband does, and I sometimes have to urge him away from his many responsibilities and hobbies to go.  At the end of each trip, I'm not ready to come home and when we get home, I'm anxious to head out again.  We've done a lot of cruises, and IMO, this is better.  Weird, huh?

We've taken our Camplite out three times so far, since we bought it in November '14, and that includes our initial trip to bring it home.  We have a trip to central Oregon planned for April and will hit the canyons again in Utah, etc. in May.  Some other short and tentative trips are in the works, and hopefully a few impromptus when the weather looks good.

Thanks for the reply.  I'm really hoping that my wife takes to camping like you have and that we get to go out a lot. The quite is what I'm looking forward to.

Since we live in Connecticut and we camp in New England, our camping season is from mid May to mid October. We are retired so we pick mid week to go camping, usually for one or two days at a time. We typically go about every other week to NY, Mass and Vermont. Only a very few Ct state parks allow pets, so we don't camp there often.

Once each summer we take a week long trip, last year to Acadia National Park in Maine. This year we may do northern Vermont or maybe Canada.

So all in all that amounts to about 8-10 trips each year for about 20 days camping all together.

Hi David, I live in Canada and the Acadia National Park in Maine is about 5 hour from where I live, I think I might go there this summer.

Paul:

If you want to camp in the park then make reservations now. There are two campgrounds- Blackwoods which is close to most stuff and Seawall which is more remote. Baxter State Park which is sort of in the middle of the state is magnificent and more rustic. But since they don't allow dogs we can't go there now.

Where is a nice place to go in Canada? We like rustic, undeveloped and scenic. Ontario, Quebec, NB or Nova Scotia are all ok for us. We would probably spend 5-6 days there, maybe in two different sites. Suggestions?

Hi David, the Kouchibouguac National Park in New Brunswick is really nice, I go there often I live about 1 hour from there. You can do reservation online at this website https://reservation.pc.gc.ca/Kouchibouguac?Map  there is two campground the one I always go is South Kouchibouguac, the other one is more rustic but I think it's for tent only? I am not sure you can check. But in South Kouchibouguac the Loop 1&2 is more rustic than loop 3. The reservation system  is opening April 15 so you can only start reserving at that time. If you go to kouchibouguac let me know the dates and I can try to go at the same time. Kouchibouguac is really nice and has a lot of activity to do and is really scenic, nice trails and beaches too. For more info you can check this website http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/nb/kouchibouguac/index.aspx

What's the story on crossing the border with dogs ? I haven't looked it up - all I know is my impression from the Frazier episode where it was, like, a felony or something, and that was pre-911.

My memory of Baxter State Park is kind of fuzzy. I remember lots of wildlife in the park. We stopped to watch a moose munch on pond grass on our way in. But I don't remember much about the campsites other than they were very rustic.
