I wanted to upload photos of my latest modification. I use iPhoto. The attachment would not upload. It says the jpeg was too big. Needs to be 1 mb, but my photos are 1.9 to 2.8 mb. I am not a computer wiz, but could use some help here. Have about 10 photos to share.

Not a computer whiz either, but I use iPhoto and here's what I do.

From the File menu, Export the selected photo using "low" quality and "medium" size for the settings.
As you export it, rename it something you can remember and put it in a place you can find it. (I use my Documents folder).
Call up that file as an attachment to a post on the forum. It will be small enough to work and ok quality/size for others to see.

Thanks, Merlin. I'll give it a try.

Another option is to export to Flickr, then link to that.

It's a single button in iPhoto, once you have set up a Flickr account.

Flickr makes copying the raw link to the file a tad awkward, but it's easy once you know how to extract it.

Flickr is my recommended choice with a full terabyte of storage.

Related note, the forum itself doesn't have much capacity for hosting files so its highly recommended to upload to a photo hosting site and post/embed the link.

Good to know about the limited capacity of the site. The photos posted using the method I listed are only about 30KB, but even small files like that will add up over time and with more members. Is there someplace on the Forum where basic instructions on site use can be posted. Or maybe there is and I missed it? As a relevant aside, are there any security risks with providing links in posts?

There are always security risks when choosing to click a link posted anywhere on the net. This is one of the few areas I can claim to be an "expert" in.

The forum cant provide any real security when it comes to URL beyond moderators catching obvious spam, and even that is not worth much. This is an open forum so anyone can post a link. The only real security is with each member. Before I click a link I decide if I trust the source of the link (chances are I'm not going to just trust a random guest). Does the link look suspicious (is it a link that simply says "Click Here")? Hover over the link or look at its properties, does it actually point to where it claims to point to? Its possible to have the text of a link say its going to point A but really lead to point B.

When in doubt dont click it. I will sometimes google the details about a link if I'm not 100% sure about it.

As for a instructions section, I havent put one together as it hasnt really been needed yet, but it might be something to come.

Here's a YouTube video I put together for a Sport Pilot forum on the same topic:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abHn-LMwwXg&list=UUIRbXga4oZn7XAUSLfkBO7w

In it, I was taking and posting a screen shot, but the same procedure would work on any photo in iPhoto.

One caveat: I don't think the "right-clicking" on the various image sizes towards the end works anymore. You must select the "Share" button now, which gives you a big block of HTML text. Somewhere in that is the actual link to the image file, starting with https and ending in jpg. It's that little gem you need to copy and paste between the "img" tags.

I can do some screen shots and post them if anybody wants.

Here you go:

Where you get the link:

You can see the drop down that lets you select different sizes, in this case one of the "Mediums".

What the full block of copied text looks like:

If there's an easier way, I'd be interested. Apple should have an easy way to easily throw any iPhoto photo into the cloud and then provide a link. Hopefully that's coming - if its not already there and I'm just missing it.
