Should I buy a small battery charger and charge it up once a month or so if I am storing my battery for the winter?

[font size="3"]Short answer is yes. The battery will be OK if you check/charge it once a month. If you can leave it hooked to a charger, a small trickle charger will also work.

I have put my 16TBS away for the winter. I winterized it and brought the battery home. I put it on a Black and Decker, 1-2 amp charger. Cost 20 bucks or so on Amazon Prime. It will be fine on the garage floor (another old wives tale) hooked up to the charger until spring even if it freezes in the garage.

If you store your camper near electricity you could also just plug it in. The onboard controller should have a charger and maintainer built in.

I recommend not using the standard battery chargers.  I always take my batteries out and bring them home.  Since they are in the plastic box I set that on the floor and use a CTEK battery maintainer.  It will maintain a charge and cycle on and off as necessary and condition the battery so that it dues not sulfate.  Other brands may be good as well (Battery Tender/minder) but I have had great experiences with my CTEK, so much so, I have 5 of them for everything that I store that has a battery.
