Hello All!

We are on the fence about purchasing a 2015 QS 10 from a local dealer.  I have read about the various issues with the other QS 10's and now thinking twice.   I have walked through the camper and everything seems to be in order.

Are there any specific defects I should look for while viewing the camper at the dealer?
Can you provide any tips as to what I should look for before buying the camper from the dealer?

Thank-you for any advice you can give that will help  :)

[p]Buy a couple of year old 10.0 then save some money and don't deal with as as many issues. [/p]

Hi Larry,
Off the top of my head the first thing i would do is make them hook up the water and open the door right under the sink and check for leaks. They told me mine was perfect. They did not even check this. Mine was pouring water from the bottom of faucet. The only fix is change the faucet or as LL calls it, the Fump. I am on my third one that i will install today or tomorrow. Hope it works. I will close off the water completely to the 7 gal tank as i will never use it. Water will leak from the fump down to the 7 gal tank so i always had to have it connected. I am going to put a shut off valve on that hose.

There is no way you can really check to see if the tent leaks. Some do not have any problems. I will be sealing mine for the forth time tomorrow. Look at the date the unit was made. I would not buy anything that was made before July. I am told the ones they are making in the last 3 months are better units. They also cost 4 or 5 hundred more but worth it in my opinion. Good luck.

Without discounting the problem reports you are seeing, I think it is important to point out that you are only seeing a small sample of total ownership.

You shouldn't over-interpret the reports you read, positive or negative. Just use them to be more educated about the possible issues, what to look for, select from your options, and what you might have to deal with if you encounter the problem.

The same goes for everything else you are considering. You would certainly find folks having problems with everything else you might buy.

And that's true. I am sure when i get all the bugs out of mine and i can go camping without having to repair leaks and relax and enjoy myself all will be fine. Right now i am just kind of tired of working on a brand new 2015 unit.

Larry, also give the battery a little shake to make sure it is tight and secure. Mine almost fell off during travel because the screw sheared off. They are very cheap screws. I drilled and tapped new holes and put machine screws in with lock washers.

The beauty of a QS is the simplicity. Buying a brand new unit should come with some piece of mind but as ron10 can attest to this does not always hold true. My personal checklist would include the following:

Water:
Faucet functions with pump and city water?
  Connections dont leak?
  Sink does not leak?

Electric:
  Battery is connected and secure?
  Charge controller (power center) works?
All outlets work (12v and 120v)?

AC works?

I doubt you want to test for leaks but you could spend some time with a hose if you want to be sure while still on site.

Honestly there isn't too much to worry about with these rigs so I would run through it as if you were setting it up to go camping. If nothing jumps out at you as being a problem then you are probably good to go.

Don't forget to check door and windows to make sure zipper has all the teeth. I am missing 2 inches of teeth on the door. I guess i will have to take this back to the dealer as they will have to take the tent off and send it out for repairs. When i get it back will i have more leaks in the tent? Probably.

I sure wish everyone the best of luck buying a new camper. I am sure 90 percent are trouble free.

My advice would be:

If you do not want to put a little time and about $500 into the trailer, I wouldn't get it. Unless there is a huge change, there are going to be fixes. Some will be the manufacturer's fault and they will fix it. Some will be a design fault and the manufacturer will not fix it and you will, if you want a trailer that runs the way it should.

Just my two cents.  I am into it about $600 over the cost of the trailer right now.

Thank-you for all the great suggestions and information.  I think we will stick with our current pop up for one more season and keep up with the QS 10.  Thank-you again!

I had several issues with my 10.0 from the dealer-wiring from the converter burned the 1st time out. I found that the wiring was wrong and had to put in a new converter.  the awning was for an 8.0 and it took 2 months to get a refund. Could never get the jacks to work so I had braces made and installed scissor jacks-up and down with a drill-great. In addition, the off road package wasnt avaiable, so I changed axles to accomadate 14" tires.  Have
finally had everything corrected and the wife wants something bigger so will be putting it on the market in the next few weeks.  If interested I can save you thousands and a lot of aggravation.
