I was thinking it might be fun to have a group map where we can all add markers for places we have been or places that are highly recommended. With that I created a google map that can be shared with anyone that has the link [a href="https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zLq35lxpWSBY.kmMVz3sB2GE0"]Google Map Site[/a]

I'm still working out the details on how this might work but I figured I'd throw it up there and see if anyone else wants to play around with it. I'm thinking of it like a giant pin board so we can have a visual representation of where these trip reports are from.

I'm thinking the basic info should be the campground, the trailer, the date, and an up or down vote on if you would go back.

Thoughts?

Instead of thumbs up or down, maybe a 4 star rating. If I can find sometime, I will try to help code.

Good idea. Also like the star rating plan.

Have been planning a round trip out west and spending lots of time checking out campgrounds along the route.

Would be handy to have a campground map rated by others here. Many times we visit campgrounds we have not
camped at when in the area to pick the best sites.

Have about 10 campgrounds in the Carolinas, that we have camped at within the last two years that I can add.

I think that the map would be a fun thing for some to post to, but I wonder how useful it will be.

I just downloaded Oh Ranger, an ap for Android and presumably also iOS that shows literally 10,000 state campgrounds throughout the nation. Add to that NFS, NPS, county, city and many thousands of commercial RV parks and the members of this forum can only rate a tiny fraction of the campgrounds available.

I just got back from an obscure state park in the Taconic region of New York. It was very pretty park, with reasonably secluded campsites, but woefully neglected maintenance on the facilities: Taconic Park, Copake Falls area. I doubt if any member of this forum would ever consider going there, just because there aren't enough of us.

It would take thousands of members to begin to rate a fair percentage of the campgrounds in this country.

And one person's interest in seclusion and natural beauty is trumped by another's interest in hookups and swimming pools. We are all different in our interests and tastes, although I would hope that Livin Lite owners gravitate to the former.

True, there will be disagreement on what is good, but little disagreement on what is bad. Like Amazon or CW reviews, the 1 stars are far more valuable than the 5 stars. But that opens a whole new can of worms........

Just campgrounds or any place you've been in your trailer even if no one would go there?

I'm good with a 5 star system. I wasnt all that worried about the specifics, I was more or less just throwing out ideas. I was thinking this map would not be a comprehensive review guide, but rather a place for reviews and recommendations from other users that we know we trust. Its easy to go online and benefit from the vast wealth of info on the net, but its sometimes hard to get information you can trust.

As for what to place on the map for now I'd leave it open to just about any place someone could camp regardless of if its a campground or not.

This can be an evolving system and all depends on what users find helpful.

I think it would just be fun to see where everyone's been.  Plus a little review would be nice.

Yep, like the idea of hearing reviews from folks you know, too.
