Another success story.

First the bad news. The microwave became very erratic. It would come on when plugged in and not respond to the keypad. Punching the stop button would add minutes to the cook time. Apparently the keypad had failed. The 1-800 number listed in the user manual had become a real estate office.

Now the good news. I talked with Don at LL and explained the problem. Within an hour he emailed me the contact information at Collins & Co. and explained they had a very good warranty replacement policy. I talked with Tracey Smith at Collins who told me how to fill out the defect report on line and said a new microwave would be shipped within 24 hours. No questions asked. Four business days later I had the new unit on my porch via FedX ground. The only thing I have to do is cut off the old power cord and mail it back with the S/N label. They don't want the old micro back. They even provide FedX and UPS account numbers for the shipping.

Thanks to LL for the fast and convenient service.

Bummer that it broke, but glad it was replaced fairly easily.

Part of the reason that we didn't order that option (besides wanting the extra storage space) was the mystery brand that they use. They don't seem to be the only RV manufacturer using that brand, but it doesn't seem like consumers can go out and purchase a replacement. How long is the warranty on the unit?

(made in China) brand everyone uses. Same factory, different badging. Even the Cuisinart looks similar. The warranty is 1 year parts and labor plus 4 years more on the tube.

What's your plan if it fails again after the warranty is up? Is the trim custom, or could it be used with a different model?

So the first thing I do is get really PO'd at the Made in China Co and their cheap junque. Then I assess the options. Since they all come from the same place they're all about the same size and come with their own trim kits. I think most will fit in the cabinet space which is a pretty standard 24x18x18 approx. I might have to work some custom trim in AL or wood. I might look at the Dometic unit since, at least, they know what the RV/Marine environment is like. Who pays for this I don't know, but I may have to spend a few $$ to keep the blood pressure down  :).
