I have been to Disney all of my life and stayed at Fort Wilderness countless times. I jokingly say I grew up at Disney. I can say the they take their wildlife management very seriously. In this case it is alligators but it could just as easily be a cottonmouth or any other critter with varying degrees of danger. This accident was unfortunate but to lay blame on Disney as if they are trying to hide the truth is absurd. Its not as if gators are some secret in Florida, and to say that you should be warned is just as over the top to me. We as individuals should take some responsibility and use common sense.
@gwbushhog, while your sentiment may be just I hope you see that this is not some cover up/conspiracy. This family experienced a tragic accident while also defying the posted warnings. Disney has had many many years of safe operations because of their diligence in wildlife management. I by no means want to lessen the tragic loss here, but I'm also willing to bet if the family was willing to ignore the already posted signs and rules, another sign warning of the possibility of a gator would not have been heeded either. To post a sign in Florida saying that a gator may be present in a body of fresh water, is like posting a warning on a cup of coffee saying that it may be hot.
My heart goes out to this family, but everyone please be careful here to avoid slander or unsubstantiated stories. We are a fun loving group and all opinions are welcome in this section but we do not want to cross into the world of anything goes. There is nothing better than a good debate conversation, but I don't want to see the same arguments that happen elsewhere on the net brought into our little community.

Sean - can we delete this thread? I can see that it's going to continue going on and on, and it would be nice to get back to talking about camping.

This is about camping and life in Florida!  I cannot yell it loud enough to uninformed or disbelieving people who visit Florida and to residents.  As a 26 year resident,  we can hardly go to a river or lake where there isn't someone with a dog in the water....usually for a bath.  An alligator turned up in back of our pool just this week.  I now live with daily worry about my pets on our non-lakefront property!

If you dob't appreciate the warning that is the intent of this thread, then don't read it.  Geez...camp on, dude.  Censorship is not cool.

Bush hog - I am not for censorship either, but this thread went way off course when you went off on Disney with insinuations and allegations, etc. THAT was not cool. Also, I think we are all clear that FL is a dangerous place.

I'm locking this thread, no need to continue on a path that seems to just continue to be an argument...
