This year has been incredible. Very mild temps. Today I will de-winterize again and we will leave for three more nights of full-on pooperable bliss! We will get to our destination and find nobody there. The dog will run free. The water will flow. We will select an appropriate sized tree to place in the trailer and will decorate it using things at hand.

We live in New England. Who needs to move South? Last year's winter onslaught is all but forgotten....almost.

Love the creative adjective. That's a special kind of bliss.

You will find nobody there just so long as nobody else thinks of this idea. I am trying to picture an appropriate sized tree that would fit into my Camplite 21-BHS. I would have trouble fitting in a twig!

Have fun!

Meanwhile, hubby and I are finalizing plans for our trip to Florida for the winter. We will be going to the Tampa RV show, in case anybody wants to join us.

We are staying at the Hancock Campground, White Mountains National Forest. We got here Friday evening and out of 54 sites there were only two others taken. Another RV rolled in yesterday. We expect all others to vacate this evening. Tenters that are a fun bunch ...

Oh the tree will be a tiny one but should be well formed. We will go to altitude today (if my wife ever wakes up) as it will rain here tomorrow. There are lots of decently shaped ones to harvest at higher elevations. Before we clear the table to make room for it in the trailer it first must fit into the backpack.

Yesterday we played in the river...mid December in NH mountains....60F....sheesh!

Leslie you are going from TN to FL, correct? I know you will be smiling when you get there. This while we get buried with snow in Feb... My Mom is finally selling her New England home and move there full time.

I am impressed with your winter camping. We live 50-100 miles south of you and two things tend to end our camping in about mid October:

First it seems that most public campgrounds close on Columbus Day. Most of the NY, Mass, Ct and the western Vermont NFS campgrounds close up by then. I am surprised that you found one open in the White Mountains now.

Secondly, one of my requirements for a great camping experience is to sit around the campfire after dinner with a nice bourbon in hand and watch the flames. 45 degrees is my limit for this kind of activity and that usually occurs about mid October also. But this year's unusually warm temperatures extend that a bit no doubt.

So, I am somewhat envious. But we will be out again in late April.

David, it helps to switch to Fireball below 45F... 8-)  Seriously though I do agree. My wife has Renauds disease (sp?) and she needs to keep moving when it gets cool outside. Sitting there by the fire doesn't work well for her.

What I try to do is position the trailer reverse of normal. For some reason our trailer is built with the larger viewing windows on the opposite side of the fire ring and picnic table. With our smaller trailer, and a vacant campground, it is pretty easy to find a site large enough to park goofy. Considering the fact that I built a dinette in place of the original jackknife sofa we can get the fire and she can also sit in the heated trailer. Sometimes we break out the cards or board games and do both the fire and the game. Enter the Bourbon, wine or what have you.

I have all but given up totally on camping opportunities in CT state CGs. There are many beautiful places but taking pets seems to be a problem. In any of the surrounding states when you couple pet friendly and winter the possibilities are thinned out tremendously. What I did was comb through all campgrounds that buy into the Allstays android app. So far I have around a dozen in NH and 6 or so in MA. Hancock is the only NF CG in the Whites. This morning it is completely empty.

When I figure out how to get my mobile bookmarks from Android sent to my Windows machine I will post them all up here.

I am with you on Ct's aversion to pets in their campgrounds. As a tax payer, it sure pisses me off that 95% of the state's campgrounds exclude pets! But I did find a gem near me that welcomes pets: the American Legion State Forest Campground just south of Riverton on the Farmington River. There are a half dozen sites that back on to the river and it is one of the most scenic sites I have ever been to. In early spring you can watch the trout fishermen trying their luck. And it is only 20 miles from my house, which really doesn't make it seem like camping. But it closes after Columbus Day. It does reopen April 15 so it is our first shakedown each spring.

Hmmm......CT state parks don't allow pets in campgrounds? I better get out my camping guides and see what others might be so backwards.  :-[   I'm kicking myself we didn't de-winterize and go camping these last few days. It's been very warm and we have a half dozen beautiful state park campgrounds in Michigan open all year.

A good amount in NH too. Some in MA are like crossing a nation's border. "Papers for the dog and photo ID's for the humans please". Others in MA, they don't even ask. One time this summer we had to wait an hour because we forgot the rabies cert and the vet had to e-send them...

So, here's the tree. Looked better in person. :D

Very warm here in PA.  They are predicting a 65 degree Christmas day... I feel like I'm in GA. :-)

Yup, someone told me it's supposed to be 60 here too. Don't remember this ever happening before. A few years ago we had spring all winter long but 60 on Christmas? Fiqures. The one year I went with strict snow and ice tires. They have been on since Nov 1st.
