Awning Poles

Anyone else have a problem with the awning poles "shrinking" in the wind? We are looking for an idea to keep them from shortening as they move a little in the wind. We only used the awning once, but found the poles kept shrinking!!

Maybe hose clamps or drill small holes and use pins.
