Rain, rain, go away

My husband retired in April. YAY! Since then, we went on a 2 week camping trip to Virginia and West Virginia, closed our apartment in Chicago, moved to our retirement home in Louisville, and went on a 3 week camping trip to Chicago (?) and on to the Mississippi River. Unpacking in our home in Louisville is not going to interfere with RVing. We have our priorities.

This last trip to Chicago (why? it seems we are having trouble leaving that area) and the Mississippi River was wet practically the whole time. It rained every day except for 2 days. Our last day was something else.

Since we were only 3 hours from home, I planned a leisurely morning with a nice campfire, a special breakfast and a nice walk around a lake before leaving. What I got was NOTHING like that.

4 AM - boom, boom, boom! Thunder. My husband can sleep through anything, but I was awake. No lightning, no rain yet. Looked at the radar on my weatherbug app. A big red blob was about an hour west of us and there was a warning about a dangerous thunderstorm with damaging winds. I woke my husband up and after he came to, we checked the radar again. We could drive south and drive out of the path of the storm.

4:30 AM - We decide we are bugging out. Get dressed, walk the dogs, close up the tip-out bunk, hitch up, get everything closed up so nothing would break loose while we make a dash to escape the weather. Put Daisy our beagle X in the Jeep, chase after her when she jumps out. The rain has started now, and thunder and lightning are overhead. Daisy, a former street dog, is afraid of thunderstorms and I feel sorry for her, but we have to book.  She goes into panic mode and runs into the camper and jumps into her bed on the lower bunk where she feels safe. Carry her back to the Jeep where she makes another break back into the camper. Carry her back to the Jeep while I hold her in as my husband tries to close the door on my shoulder. Intense pain causes me to let go of Daisy and she makes another dash to the camper. (I have a bruise on my shoulder now.) Catch Daisy while my husband holds her while I close the door. I did not close it on him - he should feel lucky. By now we are both dripping wet.

5:11 AM - We are pulling out of the campground onto the highway. This is a new record for us - never have we been able to get packed up this fast, and we have been practicing.

We get to the storage place without any problems and open up the tip-out bunk so the tent can dry out. We were fortunate that the storage place had an empty covered storage spsce as the storm had grown and followed us. It was raining while I backed into the space. We were removing our dirty laundry from inside the camper when my husband noticed some water running down the wall opposite the entry door. We have a leak in the roof!

We got home and I called Sunny Island RV, where we purchased our Camplite. They inform me that they are backed up at least 2 weeks in the service department. I ask if I could make an appointment to bring in the Camplite for them to work on that day, rather than have it sit on their lot for a few weeks. I was told that the service department would call me back.

Steve, the service manager, called me back in a couple of hours. He asked what my camping plans were. We have planned a trip for every month. Okay, I have an appointment for one day next month for them to fix my roof under warranty. It helps to have a good dealer. I will post our plans for this trip under Trip Planning.

Hope your shoulder heals faster than the roof gets repaired.

Funny well written account bar the two items above!

I have to admit, I was laughing at the dog part.  You are funny!  Sorry about the rain, your shoulder, and the leak.  I'll trade some of your rain, for some of our heat.  Keep posting!

Oh, and congrats on the retirement!

The rain has been of nearly biblical proportions here in N Ga.

We had a platform leveled and graveled for our Camplite. Two nights ago the creek its above must have gone over its banks, leaving this mess:

Oh no! What a mess! Is Kool Karen handling this with a smile on her face?

Are you sure that wasn't caused by a leaking  tank on the CL?   Seriously, while it is hard to say one is 'lucky' when something like this happens, your CL could have been tipped over by the  over the overflowing  stream.  Even a cement pad could be dislodged with that kind of water flow.

As far as "lucky" goes, we had a near disaster today moving the trailer out of that mess.

But that deserves a thread of its own, which will have to wait until tomorrow...
