[p]Been purposely avoiding the mountains of NH. With the tiny TV we have, relative to the TT, it seemed prudent. Well, my wife forgot the memo and reserved a site in the hills of NH for 3 nights for this weekend. I have decided to throw caution to the wind, double check on the life insurance policies, contact the attorney to verify our Wills are recorded and accept the challenge.[/p][p]
[/p][p]This combo has been impressive enough. No problems to speak of. Keep saying it'll be fine. We shall see how it goes with 3300#.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Oh, about the Will. You are all provided for. Just sayin'...[/p]

The ford escape with the ecoboost 2.0l is good for towing, it's the same TV as me but I do have a smaller trailer, as long as you don't exceed the limit I guess :) If you can make it to the mountain you might be able to get to the Fundy Livin lite gathering June 25 to 28 after all! :)

I've been very surprised by the performance of the Escape. My biggest problem, besides keeping enough fuel in the tank, has been wind gusts really. Not terrible and never by a passing truck or bus and such. Just on real windy days in the open at highway speeds. Not enough room in the TW/TV spec for a WDH w/sway control. So, keeping it close to home where the Hearse won't cost so much for my family.... :-S (rofl)
I don't have a WDH either for now I don't see the need for it, especially that I am on a seasonal site and I only get out like 4 times not too far away during the season I didn't experienced any sway so far but I haven't drove in real windy day, there was a windy day the other day on the highway but I wasn't towing my trailer I wonder how it would have been with it.

Congrats![/p][p]
[/p][p]You are like me staying close to home for now. I think that is best for me until I get a more substantial tow vehicle. Like someone else said on my very first post on this forum, and I paraphrase, "There are more opportunities to stay local and light than you could possibly cover in a couple years." Sage advice right there....

[/p]
Yup this is a really good advice and probably the best thing to do for you for now, it's really nice to be at a seasonal site, I can be there fast and I don't have much to prepare, I am getting a small shed built soon to store my bicycles and some stuff, I will still travel a bit but will be at the seasonal site most of the summer, I like it so far!

[/p][p]No explosions or terror. The TV towed like a champ.[/p][p]

leslie

I was torn between wanting to see a mushroom cloud or hearing about a successful trip :)  Congratulations on the trip and bagging all those summits!

[/p][p]Mountain biking the Whites is popular. We put on about 10 miles this weekend there. Summiting the 4000'ers is a much different story. Though many use MTBs for approaches the ascents are too demanding. Even if one could power up the grades they are too technical. The glaring exception to this would be Mt Washington with it's existing Auto Road. There, a road bike with a spare set of brakes for the descent might be fun. That is if one likes a good flogging from time to time...[/p][p]
[/p][p]If I was to try one, assuming they allowed a special exception for me to MTB there, it would be Mt Osceola. A lot of shouldering on the ascent but the downhill would be amazing. Maybe Mt Passaconaway too if I remember it correctly.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Here is an interesting and inspiring video of what can be done MTB-ing rough mountainous terrain. This is a version of my bike. My bike is missing several cylinders in the engine though... 8-)   https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=xQ_IQS3VKjA

Great video! Made the impossible look easy. Too bad his boat floated away on the tide; should have tied it off.

kath

Whoa. He had me at the rowing. But I wanted to tie a belaying line around his waist the rest of the way!

Some parts of this needed 5 attempts. The part where he climbed the "impossible precipice" was done untethered. THAT is freaky. I got pretty nervous myself sitting safely here in my armchair.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Anyways, glad you folks enjoyed it. Make no mistake about it I am nowhere near even close to being able to part the sea like Danny M. can. Never have been and never will be. But I can sling a mean hammer.... 8-)[/p][p]
