On other forums, I read constant battles on the quality and durability of ST tires found on travel trailers.  The Camplite 21BHS has Vail ST tires, and so far mine have been fine, although I haven't towed long distances yet.

Has anyone had any issues with the tires on their Camplites?  I see some people with other trailers will switch to LT tires (light truck), but that is not necessarily what they are designed for.

Just would like to here of people's experiences, good and bad.

Doug,

My 21RBS, ordered with the off road axle/tire package, came with Goodrich LT195/75R14 Load range D tires similar to my Tacoma. Previously I'd seen 21s on dealers' lots with ST205/75D14s, maybe Vails. The Goodrich tires are made in Mexico, the Vails in China. I hope the Vails don't prove to be the infamous China Bombs discussed so much on other forums.

From my reading I think LT and P tires have a built in 10% Government mandated safety factor becase they may carry passengers. The STs don't, which may explain the 205 vs 195 size difference, both with load range D ratings, but that seems backwards. Don't know. Anyway, I haven't had any problems yet, but it's too early to know. My thinking now is to replace the trailer tires with the same LTs when needed but to put LTs on the Tacoma instead of the Ps from the factory. The Ps (passenger) are softer for a better ride. Didn't buy the truck for the ride :)
