They will still be making the all aluminum units.  In fact, you can even get the all aluminum cabinets again if you like.  They were testing the fiberglass sides to see how the market accepted it. We'll always love the all aluminum version, but there are some advantages to the fiberglass as well.  The key is that they are truly a "no rot" camper.

It took them a year or so, but it appears as though they are really dialing in on their production.  We've been very pleased with the units over the last few months.

I (Dave @ D&H RV Center) was able to secure the first working double slide model from Livin Lite.  Last thing I want to do is make this blog a "dealer sale" place, but I thought you all might like to see this new floor plan.  It's not going to be available for quite some time.  It was a test to see if it would be received by the market.  I really do like the camper.  It is a steel frame, all composite side, floor, and roof.  It's fiberglass laminated to Azdel.  So, still no wood except the faces of the cabinets.

Anyway, very cool floor plan. Ultra light, power awning, jack, and stabilizers.

Here's a few pictures.  You can see all of them on our website. www.dhrvcenter.com

Gordon and Angela from Truck Camper Magazine were here last weekend.  They are actually going to do an article on this specific unit with the two seat dinette.  So, Livin Lite will now have to make it an options open to everyone.  I kinda liked keeping it a secret.

Anyway, Keep an eye out at truckcampermagazine.com

Hello gwbushhog,

You're very kind.  The trip sounds very cool.  I'll see what we can come up with.  We're quite busy this time of year, but It would be very cool to come out with a camper and bring a tech for some advice to everyone.

I'll talk to Livin Lite as well.  They might be interested in sending a rep down.

Thanks!

QuickSilver Toy Haulers / Livin Lite Bearcat 16FK
February 12, 2015, 12:03:02 PM
We sold one to a couple last fall.  It is a very cool unit.  Built just like the camplite with the laminated walls.  The term "off road" is relative.  It has bigger wheels and tires.  There is are different axles to give a 3' lift as well.  So, it really lifts the unit up 4 inches from the camplite.  However, there are not skid plates or true off road plates underneath.  It will work on the logging roads and cleared paths, but I wouldn't go through uncharted territory.

Hope that helps!

As a Livin LIte dealer, I would like to chime in on this.  The wood was a surprise to us all.  Please don't blame the dealer.  We found out the hard way as well.  Now, I'm very clear that there is no wood in the primary construction of the trailer.  Just in the ramp door.  The dealer is in a tough spot.  If the unit has been titled, even if it hasn't been used, it is a used unit.  It can't be sold as new.  That is regulated by the state.

It is a proven door that has been in the industry for years.  If you ever do have problems, the door can easily be replaced.  It is nothing like removing a floor, wall, or roof.  So, Livin Lite still maintains the solid structure of the main trailer.  I do agree that they were wrong in stating "no wood" in their toy haulers.  We looked like idots when we discovered it. [/span]

However, it is still about the best unit built out there.

Camplite Truck Campers / Custom Built 8.6 Truck Camper
January 21, 2015, 12:43:08 PM
So, we just had a custom unit built from Livin Lite.   We had the small bench removed and had a put a 2 seat dinette installed in it's place.  Here's a few pictures.

It seems to have much more space.  I don't think it actually does, just feels that way.

There was no sway control installed on the camper.  The new technology in the SUV handled the camper without any sway or weight distribution.   Have fun with your new camper.  It is a great product.

Take care!

I can give a little insight to the extended warranty.  You are right that the factory will cover just about everything for the first year.  However, even though the construction of the camplite is about indestructible, the components are not.  Fridge, AC, Water heater, etc.  These items do break and it is no fault of Livin Lite.  It is covered for the first year, but after the first year, you're on your own.  This is where the warranty can be helpful.  The fridge is about $1800, AC unit about $950, Water heater, $700, etc.  These would have to be paid out of pocket.  The warranty company usually cost about the same as one of these repairs.

Most people finance the cost of warranty into the purchase.  It usually adds $15 a month or so to the loan.  The odds are definitely in favor of the warranty company.  That's why they're in business.  However, they do pay out for repairs.  Just like insurance companies on your house, car, etc.

It's not for everyone, but it is a valuable tool to many people.

Hello nmken,

I think we have a 21BHS that I can get a picture of, but here is the product:

http://www.strombergcarlson.com/cargo-storage-and-carriers/a-frame-cargo-management/

We've started stocking them at the shop because as soon as someone sees one, we wind up needing one right away.  It's not a hard install.  Takes about an hour or two.  Just a bit of tinkering.

I'll see if I can get a picture of one on a camper to show you.

Please let me know if you have any other thoughts.

I've got a couple being delivered tomorrow.  I'll go out there with a tape measure and get the measurements.  We've been mounting a bracket over the propane tanks to hold the generator.  The 2400 Yamaha is awesome and works great.

Hello All,

I was given permission from this customer to post this letter he sent me the other day.  He said would probably join the board. So, I'm sure he'll have some comments for us all to read.  Here's what he said:

Hi Dave:

Thought you might be interested in our experiences towing and camping with the LL trailer we purchased from you this spring.

We have towed for about 1,500 miles- 2/3 interstate and 1/3 secondary roads.  As you  know I was concerned about towing without a weight distribution hitch with sway control. I can now agree with Troy at the factory- it is not needed with our tow vehicle. Let me remind you that our TV is a 2013 Pathfinder (the new model with a crossover style body, not the body on frame previous years model). It has a 3.5 liter engine and makes 260 hp and 240 ft lbs of torque.

There is no sway even when passed by a big truck. The hitch weight is now about 275 lbs after adding stuff, up from 240 lbs as delivered. I am guessing our total tow weight is about 3,300 lbs. The rig gets about 13+ mpg on the interstate running in the low 60s and the same on secondary roads averaging about 45 mph.

So I am totally delighted about its towing performance.

And I am equally delighted about how it works as a camper. The twin beds with the pull out sofa was a good choice. One thing I might do differently is to do away with the storage compartment in between the beds. It sort of isolates one sleeper from the other, which is ok for a couple of guys but less ok for an old married couple like us .

As you recall I was a little worried about the refrigerator as I wasn't sure if it was working (in 30 degree weather) but I tried it later in warmer weather and it cooled down fine after a half day.

We haven't begun to tax the single battery with just overnights. We will give it a better workout when we go up to Maine for 5-6 days. But since we will be travelling every other day and that will recharge the battery fully I don't think it will ever be a problem. So no second battery planned. The LED lights definitely conserves power.

So that is our report.
