QuickSilver Pop Ups / Pop up Canvas
May 26, 2016, 07:33:03 PM
I removed the entire canvas. I was dreading trying to get it back on but with the help of my kids it didn't take long and we didn't even have to resort to foul language! LOL!

I used a local place that does covers for boats and other canvas repairs.

Trip Planning / Soon da U.P.! Copper Harbor bound!
September 04, 2015, 04:03:45 PM
I live in the Lower Peninsula of Mich and I LOVE the UP! I spent a week camping in the Keewenaw last year and it was heavenly. I haven't made it up there yet this year but maybe before the snow starts to fly.....of course in the UP that could be just about any time now! LOL!

I live in Mich but the lower peninsula. I LOVE the UP! I camped up in the Keewenaw peninsula last year and hope to get back up there this fall. May not go all the way to the Keewanaw though.

Camping Gramma....I have a question for you. What is your secret to getting your camper open by yourself??? I have a 6.0 also but I still don't have the height or oooomph to get the top up and open by myself. Am I just a puny weakling???? I could probably get it closed by myself if I had to, but opening alone just doesn't seem possible. What's your secret technique????
Ideally I'd love to see a video with because I'm a visual learner, but I'll take any explanation you care to give!
Thanks!

QuickSilver General Q & A / New 10.0 leaking
August 05, 2015, 10:22:35 AM
pjcd- My problem is I am short and I don't have the strength to ooomph the top open by myself. I could probably get it closed up alone though. I keep thinking I need a system to jack it up past vertical so it can "fall" open. I had someone make a brace to "catch" it so it doesn't fall too far open and put too much pressure on the hinges, but I just can't oomph it open alone unfortunately. And since I am 62 yrs old it will only get harder for me as I get older.

QuickSilver General Q & A / New 10.0 leaking

Thriftybill,
How do you like your Bunkouse camper? I am have a  QS 6.0 but I can't set it up if I am alone. I would really like something I can tow with my puny Chevy Cavalier that I can set up and take down by myself.
I have been looking at other motorcycle campers and am interested in an Aspen Ambassador (based in Chicago suburb). Are you at all familiar with that brand?
Thanks!

I had NO idea there was a campground there! It looks lovely. I just got a book about the best places for tent camping in Mich and Warren Dunes is listed. I'm gonna have to check it out!

QuickSilver General Q & A / Canvas top questions
May 22, 2015, 03:15:19 PM
I took the top off mine last year because I had to have a new zipper installed. I just kept it off until this spring. I don't plan on taking it off this year though.
It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to get it back on but I had 2 other people helping. It took us about 20 minutes and very little swearing!

General Q & A / First camping trip bloopers...
May 07, 2015, 04:32:30 PM
I just found this thread and I'm getting a good chuckle and I don't feel so alone about my gaffs.
When I was much much younger we  used a small tent for camping trips. One year on our way out west we got to our first stop for the night and realized we left our sleeping bags at home. We decided to "de camp" and go home to get them. We got home late that nite and headed out early the next morning.  When I think about it now, I wonder why we didn't just find a place to buy new sleeping bags but it was probably because we couldn't afford new bags

My first trip this year we camped at Kentucky Horse Park. We had a great time and stayed warm and toasty despite the cold and somewhat rainy weather. ( At least it wasn't snowing which is what was happening the morning we left home!)
When it was time to leave we got everything packed up and ready to go and I had no problem getting my little Quicksilver hitched up to the Honda Element - not always a smooth operation for me.  The camp sites are cement and at the far end there is a cement bumper. I had parked the car on the far side of the bumper. As I was taking one last look I realized that the car was on one side of the cement bumper and the camper was on the other. OOPS! That could have been bad!  So I had to unhitch and start over. Luckily it went smoothly again. But I will always take one last look around before driving away!

Keep em coming folks! There has to be plenty more!

I'm following this thread intently because I am on the hunt for a new mattress too. I just found this site that has interlocking rubber tiles. I think I will lay these on the aluminum base to protect from the cold metal. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a memory foam mattress topper, but I can't quite decide yet.
