Are we sure about the 'NO WOOD' claim on these trailers?  Today, we discovered a woodpecker assaulting our Hauler.  Since there isn't suppose to be any wood in it, we can only assume he was reacting to his reflection.  Any advice to protect our Hauler from a persistent pecker?  (This is where your quick wit and clever retorts come in.)  :)

Alright! I'll play!!

I once asked this of Mr. Piper, a respected ornithologist. I call him Peter. He supposedly has picked a peck of pickled ones but this could be just a urban myth.

Seriously though, well maybe not too serious either, an owl decoy is supposed to help some. And the punch line is carve it from wood and see if the woodpecker drills a hole in it instead of your trailer?

They attack the metal gutter on our house occasionally. The racket will wake you up in the morning, since we're retired folks that sleep late!  (rofl)

We have one that can't tell the difference between wood and fiberglass, and tries to peck on the basketball backboard.

Woodpeckers may seem to be going after wood, but they are really using their beak to catch and eat little bugs that live in the wood. If tasty bugs also happen to be on bricks or other surfaces, the peckers go after them. They don't care where they catch those little buggers.
Located in Kentucky and Florida at present

Woodpeckers use their beaks to find food in tree bark but the metal pecking is a territorial display. The noise alearts other peckers of their prescence .

If I recall woodpeckers are protected so you may not want to use anything except passive deterrents. I don't recall the actual law at the moment but I know we always make sure to avoid shooting at woodpeckers when out hunting.

They always went for the metal grates on our house till they broke through and then invited the starlings to set up camp in our attic. Stupid birds.   O_o

I've had luck hanging rubber snakes around where birds like to build nests and poop all over our patio.  Bright, flashy reflective tape has also kept them out of my blueberries.  But for woodpeckers .... BB gun.

I have a Halloween spider about the size of a saucer.  Since I hung it under the eve of our house he have had no problem with woody and friends.
