Tundra

We just decided to go with a Tundra for towing duties. We have needs for the hauling capability of a 1/2 ton truck for other reasons, and it made sense to go that route for towing too. If anyone else with a Tundra has ideas about truck mods that help with towing/utility/comfort/etc., chime in. Unfortunately it comes with 20 inch wheels and low profile P-metric tires, so sometime before towing season next spring we'll probably want to find something better for towing. I'm not sure I want to wake the dragons of the LT vs P tires "controversy", but I'm sure we can do much better than what comes on the truck.

[font size="1"]Take a look at BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2s. They offer a few LTs in 20" sizes. I just put 16" KO2s on my Tacoma and all is great so far. Since even the lowest rated Tundra has 60% more tow capacity than your 16TBS (6,400 lbs vs about 4,000 lbs) I don't think you will need the benefits of LT tires to tow safely. I would first put some miles on towing with the OEM tires and see how they do.

David[/quote][font size="3"]I agree with David again. Give them a try and see what they do. [font size="1"]One of the reasons to go LTs is the stiffer sidewalls. That's to cut down on the squishy feeling caused by sideways motion. However, the low profile 20 inchers may do that too. That said, another reason for the LTs is the stronger sidewalls for damage and puncture resistance. You can deal with that next time you replace tires.[/font][/font]

[/quote]I do like the K02's and they would serve well for our other needs for truck. I'll look at those for sure. I appreciate the quiet voice. [font size="1"]I'm not so worried about dragons on this forum, but there are probably some over on rv.net that have already heard about this thread and will arrive blazing away soon. [/font]

David[/quote]It's funny, really, that your advice is probably what I would have suggested to others! I should take it! In our case, however, we do have other needs for the truck, including hauling loads of stuff regularly into our cabin that's among the sand dunes along Lake Superior. For that purpose I will be looking at tires with tougher construction and more aggressive tread before next spring. 

In a nod to @pinstriper, we made sure to get a TV with twice the towing capacity of our camper weight. So our Tundra will drag 8800 lbs around.

WE LOVE our 2015 Tundra Crew; It pulls our 21 BRS like nothing is behind us and lot-s-a POWER - They tow 10K or more depending on opts.  As for tires you can always get 4 you like if the 4 they have are not what you like.  By the way we traded a F-150 which I loved, only because we were almost at 200,000 miles and it was only looking for problems down the road.  The fuel pump was replaced - it went bad - so bye bye baby!

Love our new tow rig and tow!  Now we can go out west and have peace of mind - we hope?

Looking great. That cab looks very spacious.
