Sink in shower

I know several people have added a secondary sink to the shower of the 16DBS or TBS.  Sure seems like a good idea so we'd like to join the club!  What brand of sink did you use?  What faucet?  How did you handle the drain?  Any and all tips would be appreciated!  Pictures would be a big help as well.

It's a great mod! I ran a quick search for my posts on that and found 2 in this list that may help you out. If you have any specific questions after reading these, let me know.

Thanks Merlin.  Your posts were the ones who inspired us to look into this!  Has anyone else done this and did you use anything other than the Handy Sink?

Whoofit did it too. I replaced the original shower-only faucet with a diverter faucet so the shower still works fine. The drain just runs to a simple bucket in mine but Whoofit plumbed it into the shower drain.

I just rememered too the original Phoenix brand faucet I used broke and I replaced it with another brand that's worked better. I'll find that link and post back.

Here you go. Other colors available too.

Hi Dale,

Attached is a picture of a future bathroom sink to be installed in the corner of our 14 DB shower. My wife was adamant that no plastic be installed so that forced me to find a small SS sink and design a way to attach it. At Wayfair.ca I found a 10.5" x 13" oval SS bar sink (made by Opella). At <$150 CAD, I thought the price was reasonable for a Canadian website...I templated the shower wall corner angle so that I wouldn't have to do trial and error in the shower itself. I cut slots in some 1/8" x 1½" aluminum stock for the sink's trimmed rim to rest on.  For the small open area behind the sink, several aluminum 'slats' make a nice shelf. As for water supply, the plan is to use a shower splitter. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Solid-Brass-3-Way-Diverter-Valve-1-2-BSP-Shower-System-Replacement-Part-/262662193367 . One line will curl down to the sink and I'll attach the old shower head to act as the 'faucet'. I purchased a better low-flow hand held for the showering line, but probably should have spent even more money for an Oxygenics head. I'm going to try running the drain over into the plumbing wall space, then down and catch the shower drain under the trailer. Since I opted for aluminum cabinetry and walls, I think I might be able to unscrew the panel beside my sofa to gain access.  Best wishes on your install. Grampkilt,
Wow, that's ambitious!  Let us know how it turns out.  I think I'll go Merlin's direction as I'm not under the same no-plastic constraint it's a lot less work.

Thanks aggie79 for your suggestion. Googling IMAGES of SS hand sinks yields a surprising number of possibilities. Alas, the ones I like are from the UK...or buy 50! from China. Maybe that's why I didn't go for this corner one http://www.fitmykitchen.co.uk/sinks/wall-mounted-hand-wash-basin/p-1822-fw240c-corner-wall-mounted-stainless-steel-hand-wash-basin.html  . Probably I should have tried harder and saved myself alot of fiddling. For what it's worth, I wouldn't suggest a hand sink encroach much more than 12" into the shower space.

As a follow-up to my last post, Dale, I'm no longer jerry-rigging the OEM showerhead as my sink faucet. After some sober 2nd thought, it was just too amateurish a solution. Per Merlin's post, I'll purchase this diverter faucet  http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/chrome-finish-tub-shower-diverter/74343  and mount it over by the sink. The old OEM faucet location will likely be covered with a SS strip. Maybe I'll attach some soap/shampoo thingy to it so that it looks like it was always there.

Please post pictures of your sink mod. My wife and I really like the 16DBS except she wants a sink in the bathroom/shower area.  I've tried telling her it would work, and showed her pictures, but she is not convinced.  I think if I could show her a few more examples I might be able to win her over.

Thank you for the picture!  That is a very "clean" installation. I think my wife will like that.

As for pics of Grampa Kilt's finished install, that will be awhile Aggie79. House selling and rotator cuff surgery has delayed my best intentions. I'm putting a sink in the corner, Merlin put his centered under the existing faucet, I wonder if there are other solutions out there to keep bathroom germs where they belong and not in the kitchen! If you have pictures, all the better. Grampa Kilt

Although probably a non-issue for most, my wife and I wanted to be able to use the sink without getting in the shower stall. We track stuff of all sorts in the camper and we wanted to keep that on the bathroom floor mats and not in the shower. Keeping the sink under the existing faucet also minimized additional plumbing. In an ideal world, there would be space behind/beside the toilet for a sink, but in our 16TBS there isn't. The Handy Sink we used is the largest I would put in the shower stall. It doesn't get in the way where it is, but it would if it were any larger.
