City Water/water Tank

I have a new 2015  11fk and wondered if city water passes through the fresh water tank or bypasses it.  I am asking b/c if I have never used the fresh water tank and was wondering if I should sanitize it before using city water.

City water does not go through the fresh water tank.

If you end up with city water going into the fresh tank, your bypass calve has failed and your fresh tank will overflow when connected to city water.

I only mention it because it is somewhat common

I would recommend still going through sanitization because it also sanitize your pipes, that's what I would do anyway I am at a seasonal campground and I rarely use my fresh tank but once a year at the beginning of the season I sanitize everything just for the peace of mind

Yep. We also use one of those blue inline filters on the spigot, and a Pur faucet mounted filter to boot.

Once a year shock of the fresh tank is easy enough.

Because I've seen folks use the water connections at campsites for some dumb (read unsanitary) things, I use Clorox wipes on all connections every time I hook up. The standard blue filters and Brita type filters do not remove bacteria and viruses. Campground water is safe, but campers using it are not.

The Pur unit on the faucet does remove bacteria and viruses.

Good to know about the Pur faucet filter. I think I'll switch from Brita to Pur.
