So, how much does your Camplite weigh?

We have been preparing our camper for our trip to the Pacific Northwest, so we can meet up with all of our fellow LLers and visit our granddaughter - also son and daughter-in-law.  We have eliminated everything that we can do without. I wanted to have the Camplite 21BHS as light as possible for crossing the Rockies.

We started at 4,500 lbs with empty water  tanks and no food, but everything else that is essential on board for an extended trip. We have eliminated 200 lbs so we now weigh 4,300 lbs.

So now I am wondering - how much do other Camplites weigh, and with what onboard?

We are right at 3600 for our 14dbs, with a mostly full water tank, clothes and food plus camp chairs, tables, and a popup room and dog pen. Large duffle of firewood goes in the truck bed now instead of in the trailer but thats maybe 30#.

Honestly if we were going on a longer trip we would pack more clothes but how much does three more changes of underwear really weigh ? Plan food stops every 4 days to keep that to a minimum. Food gets heavy quick.

Just curious, how did you weight your trailer, cat scale or something different? Did you weight just the trailer?  I weighted our pickup and trailer on a cat scale a year ago and deducted the weight of the TV, got right at 5000 lbs. I need to do an update but want to weight just the trailer.

We went to a CAT scale, weighed the Jeep and the trailer, drove off to a parking spot to unhitch, then weighed just the Jeep and subtracted that from the combined weight to find out how much the trailer weighed. It took a lot of time, as we had to drive to where we store the trailer and hitch up, then drive to a CAT scale for the weighing, unhitching and hitching, wait in line to pay and receive the ticket twice, then tow the trailer back to the storage site and unhitch before we could drive home. A real hassle, but we aren't going to do it very often.

We have free scales all over the place around here. So I know pretty well what the TV weighs, within 100 pounds or so. So I just pulled the whole shebang onto the scales, subtract what I know is my TV weight, and BOOM. Cross checked by pulling the TV off the scales and weighing the trailer, and sure enough, about 375 pounds off my calculation, because tongue weight.

Weight is a really good question. I need to get ours weighed and calculate tongue weight too. Lightening up for the trip of the divide is a great idea. I wonder how much we need the 2nd propane tank and the second battery. Whenever we hit the long hauls up, we'll dump all the water we can. If we hit anything over a 12% grade, one of us can just get out and walk.

Leslie, if you see us in the slow lane on a long pull up to the divide headed west, slot in behind us and give us a shove; we could use your diesel's power.

We have ordered solid surface counter tops (Corian type material) and I know they will be heavier than current counter tops. The area is so small however I think they will only add minimal pounds.  I will wait until we get those installed, maybe later this week, and then weight the trailer.

Do you still have the 14DBS?  I am thinking of buying a 2017 14DBS, but I am nervous about some of the frame weld cracking and other quality issues (leaks, material failure...) that I have been reading about on this site.  Any words of wisdom?  Thanks!

I don't do words of wisdom. My role here is to tell people they don't have enough tow vehicle and provide bear stories.

Got our rig weighed at a Cat Scale on recent trip to Fort Wilderness in Florida. Total gross weight (Chevy Colorado full tank of gas) and 21BHS loaded as normal, 9,997 lbs. Backing out the Colorado weight with people, stuff etc we calculate the TT to be right at 5400 lbs. This is very similar to the weight we got one year ago when entire rig was weighted. We did not have time to unhitch and weight the pickup without trailer but comfortable with the numbers we calculated.

It still has the aluminum planking floor but the rubber roof.
I am pretty happy with the fit and finsish so far. We have had it since mid August.

Our 2 previous trailers we 2014 airstreams and I find the fit and finish similar.
Different materials but way better than anything else we have ever owned.
