This is our 66 Mustang that we bought the QS 8.0 to tow with on our rt 66 tour!
took over 2 months but we finally got the hitch in and I installed it yesterday.
Towed the trailer about 30 miles this morning without any problems except I'm going to have to find some extended mirrors
Going to try it out in a couple of weeks!
here is a pick!

I owned a '65 six cylinder Mustang in my youth. Yours looks like the V8 model which should be much better for towing. But as I recall the Mustang weighs less than 3,000 lbs. The GVRW of the QS8.0 is 1,500 lbs but the dry weight is under 900. If you don't load it up you should be fine towing without brakes. But if you get close to the GVWR, I would think about adding brakes.

A '66 Mustang on Route 66 would be a hoot!!!

Welcome and what a GREAT tow vehicle!      I guess I am a little biased though.

Good stuff Tom! Big step closer to your big trip.  8-)

For mirrors you might want to consider the ones by Milenco. >> [a href="http://www.amazon.com/Milenco-DM-2912-Grand-Towing-Mirrors/dp/B019YJCBF4/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1459108902&sr=1-1&keywords=milenco+mirrors"]Find them here on Amazon.[/a] << Same ones are marketed by JR Products but on amazon the JR ones, although identical, cost more.

I have used them on our Tacoma and the Jeep Grand Cherokee we had before. They clamp securely onto existing mirrors easily and the plastic clamping pads likely won't damage your chrome. What's good about them is their flexibility -- you can install them above or below your existing mirrors, you choose the orientation of the mirrors, and how far out to cantilever them. I bought them on the recommendation of another forum member (Paul) and have been very happy with them. They came with a nice carrying case too & are easy to put on or off.

Thanks Guys appreciate all the kind words!
yes its a v8 and as far as brakes the car has been upgraded to power disk brakes so no worries there.
PEIslander wish I could use the mirrors you linked to but they won't come close to fitting.
I'm probably going to go with a set of these http://www.amazon.com/CIPA-11750-Fender-Towing-Mirror/dp/B00029WRK0
