Chevy is coming out with a Duramax 2.8 diesel for the Colorado. I would like to know if anyone plans on getting one of these and if so, could we all get a real world opinion on this vehicle. The claim is 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm, with 34 mpg and 40 mpg on occasion, tow rate is 7700 pounds. The diesel is a $3,730 option.

I've been keeping an eye on those as well. I'm not in any rush for a new TV, but I am intrigued by the diesel option. But it only provides an extra 700 lbs of towing capacity, and a real-world highway MPG rating that will be probably be around 30 (from what I've read). So you'd have to drive A LOT for it to make any financial sense given the higher cost of diesel fuel, and with diesel getting the global stink-eye at the moment due to the VW scandal, I wouldn't be surprised to see GM dial back the MPG claims a bit before it goes on sale. But I still really like those trucks as an alternative to the full-size domestics, and have a feeling they will sell very well once the diesel option is finally available.

I've been keeping my eye on one too. I love my 2011 4-door F-150. It has the heavy duty towing package and 3.55 gear ratio. Mileage is about 16.5 in town and about 18 highway when not towing so the Chevy diesel would save considerable fuel as a daily driver. I wonder what mileage would be when towing?

My Chevy diesel doesn't do any better then your gasser, my issues were towing, my Doge 2500 gasser couldn't tow to save its life, had the big 5.9 V8, was averaging 9 - 11 mpg driving around town and I was lucky to get 9 mpg when towing, I ordered the Dodge with the tow, camper, snow packages just to make sure it was capable for the job, it wasn't, blew the transmission three times. Bought the diesel, (with the Allison transmission) and you don't evan feel the trailer back there. I use to tow a Nash and that one was over 5000 when loaded, ( add kids, canoe, kayak, fire wood and god knows what else)  the diesel pulled it with out any issues.
