I have an idea, but would like to confirm with those knowledgeable exactly what these little black boxes under the trailer tongue hold. (Also trying out Sean's new photo plugin. Here goes...)

Hi Kath
Box closest to camper is the breakaway brake system. Other box on frame is sort of junction box for the wiring coming in from your tow vehicle via the seven pin connector. The box on top - as you likely know - is your battery.

Thanks, PEIslander. Just to save face, I'll confirm my up-front knowledge of the battery box :-)

I thought the little box might be the breakaway. Maybe I'll pop open the ties on the bigger box to see what exactly is going on in there. But it prompts a question for me:  where is the converter likely to be in my 16DBS?  Under the bed?  Next to the fuse box?  I feel like I'm on a scavenger hunt with my new TT.   It would really be nice to have a detailed ID diagram for those of us who don't have previous knowledge. The user manual is somewhat limited in that regard.

[font size="3"]The larger box contains only the battery for the breakaway brake system. It is a small motorcycle 12V battery that needs to be checked and/or recharged at least twice a year. It does not charge from the main trailer battery or the TV. Not too smart from LL, but that's the way it is. There are several options discussed in other threads on this form. I recommend eliminating the small battery and connecting the breakaway system to the main battery. I have described this mod in another thread. The smaller box is just a junction box for the trailer-to-TV pendant, but the breakaway battery fix is easily accomplished within it. If you decide to leave the small battery in place I recommend replacing the factory zip tie with someting more convenient such as a small carabiner used for key chains. Something you can easily remove for the semiannual battery check.

I am not intimately familiar with you model, but the converter is inside the power panel that contains the 12v fuses and 120V circuit breakers. You can't easily see it and you don't need to in normal use.

[p]The big box on top, despite the somewhat misleading label, is a box that holds your battery.[/p][p]
[/p][p]The smaller box on the left holds your flux capacitor, and I don't know what the little thing under the battery box is. I'm gonna go with some kind of warp coil.

Charlie, thanks for that backup battery info. Does seem like a weird idea they had.  I've read that thread and will check it out again.

I hope you guys are just kidding around about the contents of the box marked "Battery". Otherwise, I'll have to worry if I'm really as dumb as I look!  ;)
