Hello,

I've been digging around looking for an answer to this, but have had no luck.

I recently got a very good deal on a 2006 QS 10. It's in great shape overall, but the tent is showing its age. Because of this and the amount I spent on the purchase, I have the $ to either install myself or have a new tent professionally installed.

Does anyone know the cost of a new tent and whether or not I can deal with the factory directly to source it?

What is the installation process? I read something about installing the snaps yourself as they may not be uniform between model years. Is this something a DIYer can do?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello,

I've had to change the tent on my QS 8.0 when i ordered a new tent for my Quicksilver...

I ordered the new tent from a dealer in my area, it was about 800$ for the tent.

Installing the snaps is not very complicated. I just bought the snaps and the tool to install them...

Installing snaps is not difficult at all and in all honesty that is the only real work you'll have to do. Other than than its as simple as pulling off the old top and throwing the new top on.
You can source it directly from the factory, though I dont know the running cost. I would imagine it would be cheaper than going to a deal but thats just a guess.

I will advise that if you are doing this yourself (and I think its worth doing at home), you will want to wait for a clear day with some warm weather. That will help loosen up the material so you can move it around and get the fit adjusted the way you want it.

Thanks for your help! I've put in a call to a local dealer and am waiting to hear back with price, etc.

I will report back with the cost when I have it.

I just spoke with the parts rep at Livin Lite. A new top for a QS 10.0 is $1590.26. I'm a little shocked.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The current top is pretty rough, but keeps water out, I'm told. Ugh!

I keep and clean the old canvas. I  have seen pics of people clean up some very nasty tents on this site. They had lots of mildew but cleaned it right off.

Dealer quoted me just over $1000. Not sure what's going on here, but I ordered from the dealer!

That is very interesting. Its great that the dealer is a better price but now I'm curious as to the price difference as well...

That is a HUGE price difference when I asked about 1 year ago.

Jack Filley quoted me 661.40 for a replacement - I should have jumped on it I guess - i have a bad section - occurred via vandalism or something - maybe I should just contact insurance and get that settled with deductible as that may be cheaper.

The awing was more, which was surprising at 664.63 (but again, poles, string, stakes, top portion, zippers, sides, screen, privacy curtains and all that.. I can imagine that adding up quickly, and when you don't sell/make many of one, prices usually are higher than a mass produced tent.

With the "help" of my nearly 4 yr old son, I finally got the new tent installed this evening. I bent one of the bimini poles a bit (and bent it back), but other than that, things seem to go off without a hitch. Sprayed the new tent down with water and it seems to be weather tight. Job took about 2.5 hours, including pulling the camper out of the garage and setting it up. Not bad for novice DIY in my driveway. If I can do it, anyone can!
