thanks, this is indeed helpful, especially the note about the double lipped seals. I already see a bit of grease liking out on the hub with original seals.

Outstanding ideas.  I have a 2014 8.1 with the factory AC.  It sticks farther outside, and the outside of the unit has a cover made out of the same material as the tonneau.  This gives us more space inside, and no worries about making sure the unit is breathing right (or dripping inside).  The plug is a pain as there is no place to store it.  It sits on the floor when not plugged in, or gets in the way when it is plugged in.

I'm going to look into a small door, and do what you did.

I already wired for 7 pin and I wired brake controller as well, just need to add the brake controller and the brakes to the trailer. Could you please give me more info on the brakes that you used and whether the installation was in any way complicated?

Driving on flat ohio I see only a little brake performance issue, but I am worried that in west virginia this will be more of a problem.

I towed the 8.1 up Pike's Peak and over the Continental Divide in Colorado in July, with my 4-cyl Outback, 3 adults, and a week's worth of groceries, water, and gear.  I don't have a brake controller, and felt completely in control the whole time.  Used a lower gear, kept the speed way down, and touched the brakes instead of riding them to keep them from overheating.  They did warm up, but never faded.

Where did you get the brake controller, and how tough is it to put the brakes on the trailer?
