Pictures and other attachments

At this time we are currently at our limit for file attachments. This includes pictures and any other file attached to a thread. Due to this most pictures already posted will be inaccessible until space is cleared up. This leads us to a new crossroads in the development of this community. We have a choice to start paying for additional storage space and/or push attachments to external hosting options. External hosting options would mean the use of sites such as Flickr, Youtube, photobucket, etc. Services such as these will allow you to upload your content and then provide the links in your post. In fact, most will allow you to embed your content to the point where it looks just like its hosted from our own site.

In my opinion this is a great problem to have because it means we are growing and sharing in the love of our campers and the outdoors. So at this time if there is interest in creating a paid subscription I'd be happy to look into setting it up. Please message me with any interest and if there is enough, I'll post something to start organizing it. In the meantime, please take some time to review your content and if you have uploaded a picture directly to the site please save a copy. I'll be cleaning up a few pictures so that we can at least access the rest. Then I'll be locking down the attachment option so that all additional content will have to be linked from external sites. In the near future I'll try to put together a quick write up on the process for using a external site to publish your photos and other content.

In summary:
1. If you have a picture you need to save, please do so in the next few days or risk having it removed.
2. Additional attachments will have to be linked for external sources such as Flickr
3. If there is interest in paying to add storage, or remove ads we can look into creating a paid membership.

Update:

I just wanted to be clear, I never meant to imply that this site would ever require a paid membership. If there is ever a paid subscription it will be voluntary and it would more more along the lines of a donation just to cover costs. Unfortunately I do not generate any funds from any ads that are on this site. The ads are placed on here by ProBoards since we currently utilize their "free" board.

As of right now a option has been added that uses postimage.org which claims to offer a free hosting service with easy integration to the board. This is the service used if you choose to use the new "Add image to post" button. Please note they have limited documentation with little detail about privacy policy or copyrights of the photos, so use with caution.

Hello All, as you may have noticed we are at our storage limit for pictures and attachments. This is going to force us to start "hosting" these items elsewhere. Luckily this is a fairly simple process and can be done in several different ways. I will attempt to provide some general instructions below but please keep in mind different systems and browsers will handle this slightly differently.

1. Finding a hosting service you like...
   There are plenty of services out there that will allow you to upload your pictures or videos, and most of these services are free (for the most part). Some of the most common sites for photos are Flickr and Photobucket. These sites will allow you to upload a picture which can then be shared on the forum. I personally use Flickr so the first guide will be geared in that direction. If anyone has the desire to do a write up for another service of their choice please feel free to do so and I will be happy to have it posted here.

2. Upload your photo or content to the hosting service. This will be different with each site.

3. Share your content on the forum. The simplest option will be to copy and paste the link to the photo. However this is not the only way. If you use the option to insert a picture (while in the full "create post" page on the forum) the picture should then display as if its hosted directly on the site. This same effect can be accomplished with BBCode which is often generated by the hosting service. When the BBCode is pasted into a post, it is displayed as the picture.

4. Enjoy your work.


Unfortunately at this time there is no better alternative so this will be the requirement unless we find a better solution.
