I never tried the original mattress so I can't comment on how that would have been.  I purchased an 8" cool gel foam mattress off Amazon that had good reviews. I like a firm mattress and did not know how this one would be.  I haven't slept on it yet but it feels firm in a quick check.  It came to life quick - flushed out to 8" and I do not note any off gassing.  The mattress is made in China.  I have a good mattress pad to go on top to provide a small air layer between me and the foam.

  Old smokey grill is on order, a SAMs run for essentials and I will be in business.

The stock mattress is not the greatest, good decision to replace it. Should be a big improvement.
