So far I have experienced many rainy nights and no problem with the awning.  We typically keep one end one notch lower than the other anyway. We got the new awning hold down straps in last week and will start using the especially when there may be wind. Quite honestly, one could use those rachet straps that everyone has to attach to the tube of the awning and then get two metal or plastic stakes to drive into the ground and attach the other end.

Yes these are the type stakes that came with the kit, two in package, but was wondering how difficult it is to get these in dry ground. Guess I can use a pair of vice grips if needed in very hard ground. The kit I purchased has a spring that attaches to the triangle bracket shown above and then the strap attached to the spring. We are planning another trip to north GA in a few weeks and will try it out then,

they really arent bad, even in dry ground.  worst case you can step down on it and have a helper screw it in with a stick through the top

Is there any way to keep the awning dry when rolled up? We put ours out yesterday and it was so wet and smelled of mildew. This isn't the first time this has happened, but was just wondering.

The rain gets in the ends where the material is rolled up. I've seen various home-made solutions (inverted gutter pipe, baggies, etc.) but it would nice if there were a permanent fix. We have the same problem.
