I know on most trailers you can flip the axle and put bigger tires on to get more clearance. Can anybody confirm this on an 8.0. I asked our local salesmen and he agreed saying. "That is only difference between the auto and off-road package." Are the Coleman, Bearcat, and quicksilver all the same just different labels on them?

I don't know the answers to your questions about the 8.0. However, when I visited the factory and looked at the off-road package on a Camplite trailer frame that was under construction, the extra clearance for the large wheel/tire was from a wedge of aluminum placed between the axle and the frame, not by flipping the axle. I don't even see how flipping would work on a Dexter axle, but I've no experience with that.

Flipping the axle is talking about leaf springs. There are lift kits for the Dexter axles, but they do build the trailers a little bit different.

thanks for answers. I don't suppose anybody knows what the difference is in the trailer. are wheel wells larger?

I know that on the ones I looked at the benches couldn't be removed on the off road models. They were build in to the structure of the trailer.

For a leaf spring axle suspension, the axle is typically above the leaf spring. The axle can be mounted below the spring for extra height but the old axle perches will have to be removed and new perches will have to be welded on top of the axle.

LL uses Dexter torsion axles. Torsion axles cannot be "flipped".  You can uses a lift kit - it's actually a set of spacers - or order new axles with a larger start angle on the torsion arms. (Dexter has recently started selling torsion axles with the option of a splined torsion arm that allows changes in the start angle. I don't think LL uses this option).

[p]Our 09 8.0 camper does not have the off-road package and we have taken it off pavement for some of our camping trips. We have camped off of the FR 300 Road along the Mogollon Rim which is notorious for tearing up vehicles and campers but have not had any problems. For back country camping that includes 4x4 and narrow access we tent camp. If you are taking your Quicksilver camper off pavement, spot the location of your camper deployment site carefully. The ground my be to soft or after a heavy rain it may be difficult to move the camper around by hand.[/p]
