I do both, it just depends where you go. This spring I didn't take one because most places I stopped had electric. This summer I'm doing a lot of national parks. Which don't have electric.  It's nice to have a  place to charge phones and such.

I would always have a battery. No battery will lead to strange things happening with the converter if it is powering your DC system with no battery. Your slide in/out motor may not work without a battery. You don't need a big one. A cheap 5 ah AGM such as used for the emergency breakaway circuit will do. It is light and compact. I prefer shore power, of course, but the battery is nice for those impromptu nights at Walmart, rest areas and the like.

Short answer is no. Shore power gives you all in a popup. Having said that I wouldn't ever purposely go without a battery. The security of having it if your car battery goes dead is enough reason to have one for me. 50 lbs doesn't break the weight barrier in any way, does it?

If 50# makes the difference, you were too close to the line in the first place.

That said, 50# is a big chunk when you are trying to get 250# off the thing.

Just bought a used 2013 Quicksilver 10 a couple of weeks ago and had a great trip for 4 nights. Loving Life.  So this is my issue regarding battery that is wired into the Trailer and sits on the hitch.  Thanks for your troubleshooting experience.

Last week we got to our campsite which had 30 Amp power.  Before hooking up to the power we put up the light that plug into the round plugs.  Light did not come on.  I assumed that the battery was dead.  No problem.  I plugged in the 30 Amp at the camp site.  Noticed that the lights came on.  Cool.

10 minutes later- noticed that the lights were off.  I pugged and unplugged the lights no change.  Noticed that the light bulbs were black.  Figured that the bulbs blew.  Cigarette outlet was very very very weak when charging IPhone.  Switched and used a regular outlet charge was fine.  Ran air conditioner excellent. No problems.

I am home now.  Camper is in the garage.  We are getting ready to out camping again.  First stop has no electricity.

i bought a battery tester from Harbor Freight.  Battery was poorly charged.  I connected a charger left it on for an  1/2 hour. Battery is now showing fully charged.  Which has me wondering how battery charged so quickly.  Camper is closed up in garage.

Do you think that maybe the fuse is blown?   Or was a bad fuse?
Or Original battery from dealer is shot?
-Bought new new bulbs for the livin lite lights which we have not tested. What type of fuses should I buy.  At the store I saw there were a couple of different types?
also how many fuses the fuse box have?
thank you

I just left my battery charger on my battery for two days. It is a slow charge. I think it is only a 2 amp charger but good for winter and now if I need it.
