The total weight of car, camper and loaded as we are off to Colorado was 6,200 lbs. That's pretty heavy. The car by itself empty weighs 4100. Trying to figure all this out. Total inside car is 4735 loaded and camper must be the rest, 1465. Just seems like a lot.

are you carrying any water?  that is 8lbs per gal

dp

Nope. Says I can carry a max of 5100 in the car. I'm thinking of taking a couple hundred out of the camper and put in the car. I have 1465 in the camper of close to it.

also remember to consider passenger weight.

you should really try to come in at 10% below max, just for a safety margin.  all of the capacities are quoted for a new vehicle in perfect condition, so items like brake wear can reduce those capacities.  i believe this is why the 10% margin is suggested.  i know that isnt always possible, but it is a good target to shoot for.

that being said, as long as your tongue weight is good (10% of the loaded trailer weight) and that tongue weight is below the max tongue weight for your vehicle, and of course you are not exceeding the gvwr or the max trailer weight, then you should be good to go.

[p]Could you tell us what model of TV you have and what model CL? Your camper weighs less than a third of your TV. Should be no problem towing that rig.[/p][p]

David and all, thank you all so much. I posted somewhere else here that my owners manual says not to carry and tow more than 6600lbs at one time. I weighed at CAT and my total was 6140 so I am more than safe. Thank you, just a worrier.
