You will not believe this

I posed a question about towing with a Jeep Grand Cherokee with or without WDH & anti-sway, here and on another board. I was hoping that someone who tows with a JGC would reply. No luck on these boards. However, in the real world, you won't believe what I found.

I am just back from The Longest Yard Sale, where I found lots of Jeeps with ball hitches. I talked to the owners who all talked about how those Jeeps will tow. They don't have any idea how much weight is in their trailers. They don't know how much the tongue weight is. They just hitch up their Jeeps and off they go. Of course no WDH or anti-sway. !!!

I believe it. To be honest I dont think most people pay all that much attention to what they are towing. A lot of people assume just because the tow vehicle CAN move the trailer that it safe to do so.

[p]It all depends on which trailer. We tow the 16TBS with our 2013 Pathfinder just fine with no WDH. Your Grand Cherokee has a 6,000 lb tow rating I think and our Pathfinder has 5,000 so you should be fine with the 16.

But the 21 and certainly the 28 will be different. There are a couple of recent threads that give hitch weight data on the 21 trailer. One said 525 lbs and another said 575 lbs.

That kind of hitch weight may be a problem. That much weight will eat up most if not all of your net payload and is a problem irrespective of the use of a WDH.[/p][p]
[/p][p]The 28' trailer will definitely need a full size pickup or SUV to tow it.

And FWIW I do know what my 16TBS weighs and what the hitch weight is. But I am anal about stuff like that ;-).

[p]If you live in Arizona, take note of what people are towing on the Black Canyon Highway (I-17) and the Beeline Highway (AZ-87). Usually to big and heavy for their tow vehicle, improper hitch and type of trailer being towed. What is often overlooked is the type of trailer that can be towed. The vehicle can tow up to 2000 lbs but cannot tow a high profile trailer (travel trailer).[/p]

This seemed like an appropriately titled thread for this youtube I ran across in the Subaru Outback forum. Lessons here for having an adequate TV.
