Charleston, SC in a QS10

Just it back from Charleston, SC and thought I'd share my experience.   To start, I pull my QS10 with a Subaru Outback. After 4 long trips, I'm still kinda amazed how easily it pulls and brakes.  I averaged 21.5 mpg running 70 most of the way over 5 hours each way.

My wife and friends were swimming in a race from the port to Patriots Point, and we stayed on the SW side of town at Oak Plantation Campground.  Let face it - it's an RV park, albeit a fairly nice one.  There were a few trees down each row, and the bathrooms were fairly new and clean. But out of the 100 or so campers, I saw 4 pop ups.  There were mostly class As, 5th wheels, and some large travel trailers. But folks were nice, and I didn't see any nasty looks as we did our cooking and cleaning outside.    We enjoyed the shade in the evening and the swimming pool was a nice luxury.  But I wish we had booked a campground earlier and gotten James Island Park or the forest service campground north of town. Oak Plantation was nice, bit it just isn't our style.

There were 2 tough parts. First, there wasn't a dish wash station, so did dishes in the site. But where to put the rinse water?   Not a big deal.  Second, for May it was nice weather, but it was still too hot at bed time to sleep.  I have the AC option, but we have never even thought about using it. I wish we had. I think we feel like once we use the AC that we are no longer camping.  So we didn't use it, and we slept too little, and so it was a looooong drive back.  Next time I will swallow my camping pride.  Or just not try to camp during the summer below 3000 ft.
