Grey Water Tank

Is it me or is there something not right here? The middle strap on the grey water tank

[/quote]The grey and black tanks are slanted to the dump side, so the brackets are all different sizes. In this case it looks like the put them on in the wrong order (or used one incorrect one). Send this to LL (or call them) and they should DEFINITELY fix it under warranty because it's obviously a manufacturing defect.

My thoughts exactly, however, its an easy fix, I'll notify them but will do it myself, the black water tank straps had a similar problem, they were in order but needed to to be blocked up, they were pinching the tank, (to tight). I don't understand how this kind of thing makes it out of the factory!

Poor quality control, for sure.

I'm also looking hard at the design of the brackets. It looks like the screws holding the brackets to the frame will be leveraged by the brackets, rather than in straight shear or tension.

It's probably worth at least measuring to find out if you have all the right brackets but they're just in the wrong spots.

[/quote]I see that as a potential problem, but not to concerned, I don't travel with any fluids in the tanks. I'm going to see if swapping the straps will solve the problem.

A Fast Eddie fix would be some rubber matting wedged in there and held in place with Ty-wraps or hose clamps or just glued.

Dont think it didn't cross my mind, the middle strap belonged on the down ward side, but it still left a huge gap on one end, I did little cutting, some rivets and a couple of bolts later it looks like it came from the factory,,,,,, let me rephrase that,, looks like the way it "should" have come from the factory.

Nice job... when you said rivets I was worried, but it looks like you doubled up with some aluminum stock. Looks fine to me.

Yes, its doubled up with some left over marine grade aluminum, ( I use to have an aluminum boat ),  I used SS hardware and SS rivets. Still not crazy about the straps, but I guess nobody has complained about them sagging or breaking.

[font size="3"]I guess my eyes are getting old and my glasses are dirty, but I can't quite see how you did that. You put an extra thickness of AL bar stock on the top of the bottom cross rail and bolted/riveted it to the original cross member? Then doubled the vertical pieces too?

The far strap was cut at the up right and 1.5 inches was removed, I then used marine grade aluminum flat stock to rejoin the cut piece's.

i appreciate this thread because I found my tank straps goofy too. The fresh tank had the straps reversed so that it would not drain fully. The tanks distort a lot when full and my fresh tank sagged against the axle when full. Probably not good for the longevity of the tank.
