Florida residents: campgrounds run by cities or counties?

My husband and I plan to spend January and February in Florida, in all kinds of campgrounds. We want to spend about a week to 10 days in one location, then move to another spot. We would like to experience as much of the state as possible.

We have plans to stay at a couple of RV resorts, where we have reservations. The rest of the time I would just like to wander, without having to make reservations, just wherever.

I find that I really enjoy public campgrounds run by cities or counties. We stayed at one near Elgin, IL that had no bathhouse and only electric sites, but we enjoyed our stay, along with the price, $15/night.

This past January, I spent 10 days at Lake Rosalie Camp near Lake Wales, FL., which is owned by Polk County. They don't take reservations, but I had no problem getting a campsite with a lake view. $23/night for a campsite with water and electric, and a well-kept bathhouse made me very happy.

So, I am doing some research to find more such public campgrounds. Can anyone recommend some more for me to explore in Florida?

Take a good look at the Florida State Parks. They have some really nice campgrounds, although you may want to make reservations given the fact there will be a lot of snowbirds down here during the winter.

Lake Louisa in Clermont I'd very nice. We stayed at Highland Hammock as well, and that is good as well. Paynes Prairie is nice as well as many others.
