Bummed...got trip pics, but is 3rd party site the only way?

We revisited and took pics for DJSamuel of the Big Meadow Family Campground in Townsend while up there mid-May.  DJ, we give it a definite thumbs up.   Turns out that for years, we have been walking/biking/tubing this river and road on which this campground sits, but never took time to recognize it by name.  We love it there and so will you.  For what it's worth, if it were us camping there, we would want to stay in any site between nos. 1-14 where the river is located just across the single lane country road.

But back to point of this post and why I'm bummed?  We would love to share our RV experiences/photos with LL brethren, but must pose a serious question here:  Why do we need yet another site to have to mess with?  Is 3rd party the only way?  Selfishly speaking, seems like 12 bucks would have been easier, though we understand the hassle it would be for Sean to manage.

Just not sure ....'flick' or flight?

I too feel your pain. I have tried both Flickr and Photobucket and either the user interface is too complex, the procedure to get BBC code too arcane, too many ads popping up, well you get the idea.

But Sean doesn't want to deal with paying and I agree with him on that- too much administrative work and too restrictive for new members.

I for one would be perfectly happy if LL kicked in enough to make it work. As long as we have independent moderators and administrator I can't see how LL could control the site unfairly. Give it a try I say.

I second David's suggestion. So long as LL does not have access as admin or moderator, they won't be able to censor posts.

I think there would still be a potential issue. Depends on how well hidden LL's support is kept. If i become known that LL financially supports the form, which I think would be inevitable, then some disclaimer would have to be made that clearly and emphatically states LL has no editorial control. The public assumption will be that LL censors the feedback.

If, however, we could somehow boldly state that LL supports this form as a valuable source of customer feedback and product improvement we could turn a possible negative into a real positive. I know of no other RV manufacturer that listens to it's customers, much less entertains customization, to the extent LL does. That is, if LL is interested.

Just a thought.
I agree. And also agree with Charlie's assessment re: boldly stating. I belong to two forums where the manufacturer kicks in a considerable amount to support the site. Both companies are smartly aware that their product is getting out there with every post, even the negative ones (which they can use to improve their product, if they so desire).

No one in these two very large forums ever has a concern that the manufacturers have any kind of "control" or censoring role. It just doesn't play put that way, isn't possible, and everybody knows it. So it works.

Just not sure ....'flick' or flight?
Thanks for the feedback on Meadows Family Campground.  We're looking forward to our stay.  Sounds like you had a great time, which is hard to imagine not having a good time in Townsend.

Thanks again.

David
So, David, while we personally don't want to 'flee', per se, but rather, we prefer to 'fight' NOT to 'Flickr' (or any 3rd party) for our own reasons, what would be the next step?

In the end, it may be that we go quietly along and 'flick r bugger', or whatever.  Or we may simply go away, but before deciding, can we explore all possibilities?  There appears to be agreement by others on this board to that end.  What about an on-line poll that can be presented to the powers-that-be at LL?

What 'cha think, David?

gwbushhog:

You, me and most of us are merely users of this site. Sean is the administrator and does the work of maintaining the site and I respect that. Sean has to decide what he wants to do if anything. I don't think that this is a democratic, we take a vote and Sean does what we decide, type of thing. I expect that Sean will listen to our comments and do what he thinks is right.

So I support posting our comments just like others have done so far in this and the "Candid" thread. But Sean has to decide what to do.

Okay, so while not meaning to swerve into anything remotely 'political' here, was meaning to suggest the utilization of the 'poll' feature provided on this PB to attain a member consensus that might prove helpful in launching an appeal to LL for support.   Had hoped that Sean would have posted a 'yay or nay' or something-in-between by now in response to your initial post.  Must presume the status quo will carry the day.

Maybe LL could be motivated if they started receiving requests like this?

I tried flicker did not like it, then a few days latter I tried photobuckedt. Not a good answer but doable, I make sure pic's are not to big and upload. When done I copy the link for page and past it in my message. I did this on my second part of my first trip, I then added some pic's of the dog same link. And I would vote yes to let LL spend some money to help with the pictures. It's all good!
