New Members / Happy New Year Greetings from Southern GA
December 30, 2016, 09:58:51 AM
Welcome, but likely not for long! With the imminent closure of this forum most of the active members have moved to:

http://aluminiumcamperforum.com

I'll bet you'll like the 21RBS. Choice of dealer is really important so read some reviews on those.

I don't think Pinstriper will make it to the Maine meet up this summer and someone has to carry the torch. Last

This "Last" thread is so childish. I refuse to lower myself and participate. But, just in case, LAST! 8-)

Anything not covered elsewhere / Thank You Scott and Sean
December 17, 2016, 02:47:20 PM
Sean and the mods kept 1347 members and over 26,000 posts from going astray; no easy task in this Internet age! It was an ACTIVE forum, with 76 members having over 50 posts and many, many other members with multiple posts. I really encourage all to join the aluminumcamperforum.com and continue the discussions, ideas, rants, and humor that characterize forums. I wish Paul well in administering that one!

Yup, copy and paste time. Then I'm going to delete my account. I know the posts will remain, but LL doesn't need my account information once they end it.

First, thanks to Sean for all the work on this forum to date. As Admin and along with the moderators, you've made this a fine forum. Second, thanks to all who have contributed so well to this site. I've learned a lot from others on here. Third, I also appreciate LL's support, up to this point, but to end it and pull the URL means losing all the collective wisdom on here over the past couple of years and that's a travesty and a loss that hurts current, prospective, and future owners. See you all on other forums.

Welcome! What have your adventures been so far? I've been in another member's 28 and there's a lot of room in there!
Thank you for the comments (mostly helpful!) about our proposed tow vehicle. Would like to hear more, especially as we chose this (Lexus RX350 AWD) based on advice from a reputable RV dealer here in Ontario Canada. At that time we were looking at an Airstream Sport 22FB which, wet, comes in around 4500 lbs so the concerns about our ability to safely pull that weight are naturally a concern.
I'll just chime in here that simply put, you should never exceed the tow rating of the vehicle. If anyone advised you otherwise, they were wrong and it's not safe. Most conscientious folks would advise a trailer weight of somewhat less than the maximum capacity of the tow vehicle. Tongue weight and overall vehicle weight carrying capacity figure in this too. The actual trailer weight and tongue weight going gown the road is what matters, not the dry weight in the fancy brochures.
(2)Side bolts (one each side) -  1/2"-13x3" grade 8 were added to each side of the coupler. A 1/2" flat washer is used under the head of the bolt and a 1/2-13 stainless steel self locking nut is used on the inside of the A frame.
To install the bolts you will need to remove the center tongue jack and the (3) bolts holding it in place to facilitate getting a wrench on the lock nut. The two new bolts should be torqued to 80 ft.lbs. Check the torque on the existing bolts, they should also be at 80 ft lbs. Replace the center tongue jack and re-install the (3) bolts on the tongue jack torquing those to 23 ft.lbs.

If you have a 21' Camplite trailer and would like us to send you the bolts, washers, and nuts please PM me here.  Include your mailing address, VIN and size of coupler.  All but the first few are 2-5/16"  A few early units utilized a 2" coupler.

- Dan
This is great! I think it might be good to post this as separate thread in either "Ask the Factory" or "Camplite Mods" because it's a bit buried here in this thread on purchasing from SIRV.
