New member with a 21BHS on order, fully loaded with options except the underbody coating. We are told it will be ready in mid to late March 2015.
Questions:
1. Does anyone have any experience with composting toilets for LL trailers as you-tube videos indicate they are the way to go, no chemical, no smell, no water use, no black tank dumping/spill issues etc.
2. My wife Jan and I purchased a new Chevy Colorado with 7000 lbs towing capacity for the TV. So far it is a very good truck and basically everything one reads from hundreds of positive reviews is right on the money. Obviously time will tell.

Regarding the composting toilets.........
My wife and I have one installed at our cabin and there are trade-offs. They do take some water to clean and there is water in the waste. You either need a source of heat (electricity) to evaporate the water or have a drain to get rid of it. They do have to be emptied of solids (compost) and the timing of that is tricky. When in regular use, the most recent "additions" are not yet composted, so there can be a mess to deal with. RV use might be a better proposition because you may be able to let the contents sit and compost between trips. The one we have (Sun-Mar) really needs a 12 VDC fan in the vent stack to pull the odors out. And they do require venting to keep the smell "outdoors". Lastly, while there is no typical toilet chemical needed, you will need to add compost starter and perhaps other compost materials along the way to get them to "work" properly because the composting process needs care and feeding and the proper temperature. As a result of all that, we now use a pit toilet (a few hundred feet down the trail) and not the composting toilet. All that being said, it certainly may be worth considering one for RV use. Those made specifically for RVs may have accommodations to make them easier to live with. If the black water tank in our Camplite were the limiting factor in waste holding, a composting toilet might be useful. However, it's the grey water tank that's the limiting factor.

Great thanks for the input. We have seen one called Nature's Head and seems to be well received by folks living full time in a large RV. I believe it is Gone with the Wynns you tube on composting toilets.
I will do that if we decide to go that route.
I see you are from Michigan and we will headed that way (Grand Rapids) after picking up our trailer in IL.

We want to go in a different direction. Talked to Don @ LivinLite and discussed installing a cassette toilet in a TT, like installed in some LivinLite truck campers. This will get rid of the black water tank, too. He said they can install one.

[p]I have a Thetford cassette that is tied into the trailer's water system. That allows you to charge and flush it with fresh water (unlike the recirculating toilets). Mine is assessable from the outside. Only thing I have thought about is possibly getting an extra cassette for longer camping options without dumping. I have this one:[/p][p]

Saw a Thetford cassette toilet in the Lil Snoozy fiberglass TT. New production aluminum Bowlus Road Chief also have a cassette toilets.
