Title: Front door swing
Post by: hdrehder on October 12, 2014, 11:03:31 PM
We find ourselves wishing that the front door had a 180 degree swing out. Has anyone else wanted this? If so, Curious if you've contemplated a modificatin.

On my 21BHS there's an awning support right next to it, so I wouldn't be able to open it a whole lot further. On the 14DBS it looks like you have a bit further until you hit the fender or window. I haven't looked that closely at it, but I suspect you could replace the strut with a longer one or remove it completely and use a stopper on the side of the camper.

I definitely would like a greater door swing on my 13 QBB. I've not looked at it to see if there is a mod I could do, I figure the door fit is pretty important and I don't want to mess it up.

When we got home from Florida and were unloading, I made mention to my husband that I wished the darned door could lay flat against the trailer like our old A Frame used to do as all of our previous pop ups.  We looked a bit closer and could take the strut off and put a fairly long stop on the side so that the door wouldn't break the kitchen window.  We wouldn't be able to open that window, but if we are outside, who cares?  That will be a spring modification.  Just want to make sure that it won't void any warranties first.

My suggestion is we keep encouraging TT about this and wait until he posts the video of the change. Let HIM void the warranty first.

My favorite youtuber, David Jones, has a motto that I also embrace: Don't turn it on, take it apart.
