Title: Mercury Marquis
Post by: dp on August 24, 2014, 02:24:28 PM
Hi All, people here are very nice to help. I have a Merc grand Marquis and I just got my 10.0 and pulled it home just a few miles. Going camping this weekend. My question is if anyone else has a car like mine and how does it pull. How fast do you go safely? Do I need a transmission cooler? Just things I have no idea about and any help at all would be so appreciated. Thank you all so much. The Mercury is for light pulling anyway, no more than 2000 lbs. Thinking of doing cross country camping next year.

I use a 1994 Grand Marquis for towing my 10.0. I did put a trans cooler on it I also put some air bags in the rear coil springs to help level out the car.  I pull up to 70 mph. I use overdrive on flat bits and turn off overdrive in the hills. I have pulled it prob about 3 or 4 thousand miles with it. One thing I haven't done that I prob should it get some towing mirrors. She pulls like a dream and if you have a newer car you will have more power and better brakes.

Larry, thanks. I have a 2005 that runs like it is new but did not want to hurt it pulling 1200 pounds. I will get the trans cooler. The dealer tells me and the trailer sales people tell me I don't need a trans cooler but I better get one. Thanks again,
