Title: Window locks problem
Post by: runningwriter on August 13, 2014, 08:44:53 AM
I have 2 window locks on our 2011 13QBB that we can't unlock.  The center button will not depress.  Is there anything that I can address by pulling them off and lubing or something?

Thanks
Dave

I also have a 2011 13RDB which started doing this yesterday--only 1 window lock.  After I played with it a little, I got it to turn, then I worked it back and forth after the window was open and it seems to be ok.  I want to try some silicone lube, but not sure if it will help or hinder.  I wonder if it will react with the plastic in a negative way.  Let's see what people suggest.  Thanks, Jim

Hank, I guess it's just you and me.

i will try to disassemble one and will report back.  I was going to switch out the locks from the window above the sink (we never open it, anyway), but there are 4 different styles involved.  You have lefts and rights both with and without struts.

None of the window locks in my 2014 14dbs have a button of any kind, much less one in the center. So I'm not at all sure what you're describing. Pic ?

On my 2013 13QBB the window shade has buttons that squeeze together to allow the shade to go up and down, the windows themselves have L shaped levers that more or less hook over a tab on the window frame. I'm confused as well.

Just to support Dave's possible sanity, let me chime in with my 2012 13QB's description. Three windows have push-buttons. The "fire escape" window does not. Luckily, I'm experiencing no problems. I've used all the windows often during the past two months.

I never said he wasn't sane. And I'm not saying that he is. I'm just saying I'm flummoxed by the whole button thing.

Pics ?

On my 2013 21 bhs I have push buttons on the non emergency windows. Push button in and then turn to open. Sometimes you have to wiggle a little to get the button to push in, but other than that they always open.

Very interesting. First I thought it might be peculiar to 13 footers. Now it seems it was an earlier LL implementation on all or some CLs. No push buttons on my 2104 12RBS.

Well, so much for my sanity! With closer inspection, I see that only the large window behind the bench has buttons on the latches. The three other windows do not have latches with buttons. Visually, they are all very similar. The buttoned latches must be depressed in order to operate. (I see no practical use for this features.)
Here are photos of both types. The latch with bricks in the background has a button.

Pic ?
Pulled the malfunctioning, push button locks off hoping to look inside.  No such luck.  Then, I oiled them with a light oil.  Even with the locks on a bench, I could hardly push the buttons inward.

Bottom line, I got two buttons pushed in and to the point where they stay in.  Good enough to be able to open that window.  Had one more stuck lock on the large window next to the queen bed.  I simply swapped that one for a functional lock from the small window above the sink.  We never use it anyway.  (The entry door hits it when it's open.)

So, some success getting 3 windows to function but not quite satisfied.

Never saw that style window latch before...huh.

I imagine the design is to prevent someone pushing a slim jim past the window seal and flipping the latch open.

I also figure they stopped using them because they fail quickly.

Good news is it should be an easy replacement with non-button models. Even if you are past warranty, they can't be a terribly expensive part (now we're going to test MY sanity).
