Title: Do you grease your balls?
Post by: leslie on August 13, 2014, 01:53:19 AM
Question: Do you grease the ball hitch? A friend says it helps to prevent rust. I wonder if the ball is greased, can the tongue just bounce off while running down the road? And if you do grease the ball, what do you use?

By the title of this tread I wasn't gonna' touch this question,LOL. But I just had to read to read the content LOL. Reese makes a white grease for a hitch ball which I believe is just a white lithium grease which worked for me.

Yes, with lithium grease. The hitch latch is what keeps the hitch in place.

Yes.

Red high pressure lithium grease bought at an auto parts store and applied with a paint brush.

The dealer we bought it from said it was not necessary, and delivered it dry. After one day of towing there was noticeable wear to the chrome finish on the ball.

We also grease the sway control arm balls (not the sway control itself!) and the W/D bars where they insert in their sockets. In fact, our EAZLift hitch has grease nipples on the sockets.

I use white lithium.  It helps keep the latch working smoothly and is quieter while towing. I recommend putting a sand which bag or rubber glove oner it when boy in use.  The freeze just ruins clothes.
