hi all!
We just returned from our maiden voyage here in Ohio, I will [a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/leckig/88LakeLoramieStatePark?authkey=Gv1sRgCKny_tea_4qR2gE"]share some pictures [/a]with you.
Next week we are planning to go to Michigan - first for a few days all the sand dunes area (Sleeping Bear) and later to the upper peninsula, the Pictured Rock area.
I am reading some horror stories about all the insects that want campers' blood there... Is this still a problem this late in the summer?
We plan to stay in parks that do not take reservations. Could this potentially be a problem - I was hoping that since the school starts next week, we should be able to find some spots.
Thank you for any tips you may have. Oh, are black bear a concern in the UP?

I live in Mich and am planning a trip like yours later in Sept.
School doesn't start in Mich until AFTER Labor Day so you may find campgrounds a bit busy with people who want to squeeze the last bit of summer out of August.
You may want to have a few parks to choose from in case the one you want is full.
I don't know how common black bear are in the UP but I know I have never seen one myself! I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure if there have been problems the campground will have notices about it.
I don't think bugs are as big a problem this time of year as it is earlier in the season. But I usually take my trips in the fall so I can't tell you for sure.

I inferred school start august 20. I was a bit afraid that later in the fall it may get a bit cold - we are yet to try the quicksilver in colder weather.
