Title: 2014 Camplite 16TBS (recent problems)
Post by: nmcamper on July 19, 2014, 06:17:38 PM
Two issues on the 1st camping trip & out for only 2 nights.
1) Heavy rain caused a major leak from the window in the door, flooding the floor.  LL and the door mfg., suggested removing the frame and re-caulking.

2) The roll up shade system in the slide out window became stuck, and would not move. When I got home, I removed the shade, and discovered that
LL used a tape to cover the joint between two sections of the wall paneling.  The tape had peeled away from the wall, and wrapped itself around
the shade mechanism.  It was not an easy task to re-assemble the shade unit.

Not a very positive first outing. I live 200 miles from the nearest dealer, so try to deal with problems that arise myself. Wayne in northern NM

I read in a previous thread that the door, made by a third party, could have some wood in it.  Be sure that the water did not get inside the door and only came into the camper, other wise, be on the guard for wet wood.

Since LL was acquired by Thor they have been allowing warranty work at more RV dealers. Specifically they have been working with Camping World. There is one in Albuquerque. Maybe other RV shops too. Call LL warranty dept. and ask. The dealer in COS is good, but a bit far from you.

My first time out, I discovered a leak during a 24 hour massive series of storms, (13QBB) and water dripped all night from the speaker over the bed...onto me. I slept with a plastic bowl at the end of the bed and woke every time i moved, fearing I'd tip it. I think the leak was from the other side, running thru the speaker bulkhead to the low side and out the scre holes.

Having said that, I think I fixed that issue (along with a bunch of plumbing issues from a mishandled interization and a loose ire from the power to the water pump) and I'm back in love with it. Looking forward to going for 3 nights this weekend in New Hampshire. Next time out, you'll have a great time and forget all about it I hope.

Given a recent comment regarding quality issues I was wondering if there has been any update on these other seemingly horrible quality issues - as I am looking forward to getting mine, I'd love all suggestions on how to go over it with a fine tooth comb before signing off.  ie the suggestion to block light on the interior to inspect for visible gaps at the door and windows.

I think you do the best you can not to get all excited about falling in love with your new $30k depreciating asset. Take your time. Look at everything. Open all the doors, close all the latches. Push all the buttons. Sit everywhere.

You have to turn your mind from looking at all the stuff that makes you happy with the purchase towards what could possibly be wrong. You have to look for flaws to see them, and be willing to bring it up.

The tech that did our inspection was really good - he actually pointed out stuff that we wouldn't have seen ourselves during the PDI, and was making his own punchlist. Of course it's all warrantee work, so its in his interest to get the work.

We found stuff during the first few trips that he couldn't have - cable TV signal not coming in from the jack, for example. You won't find everything during the PDI. Don't sweat that.

This, in my opinion, is when you find out whether you have a dealer that's worth doing business with. Our tech walked us through everything, said "Don't worry, you'll forget a lot of this, so call us whenever. And when it comes time to winterize it, we'll do it for you, or teach you how to do it. Any dealer that won't teach you to not need them for stuff you can do yourself isn't a good place for service."

Now, that dealership's service isn't the fastest, but so far I've been happy with them (all minor warrantee stuff).
