Title: The pesky stabilizing jack rod
Post by: jammydee on August 31, 2016, 12:48:30 AM
Hey. Packing up for our first trip with our 2017 10.0 and I'm wondering what the best storage solution would be for the metal rod used to hike the stabilizing jacks snug with the ground. I was thinking of attaching something to the inside of the door to hold it but was coming up blank on where to look. Any ideas? Where do you guys (8.0, 8.1, and 10.0 owners) keep it?

I have a tool box that stays near the door while everything is packed. That way I have all the essentials easily at hand. I use the small Plano sportsman trunk which is more than enough room for everything and it easily fits in the doorway. Then when at camp I store the trunk just under the camper, within easy reach.

i have clips inside the storage area on our vrv for rods/poles/etc, but i am not sure if you have a similar area.  i also mounted fishing rod holders like this for flags/whips

the best way i found to take care of that rod was to replace the little jack leg thingys with scissor jacks

Yeah, with scissors jacks you just bring along a cordless driver and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzANGKKKKKK!!! the jack is down and in place.

I stopped using the rod thing after the first trip. I put the yellow plastic pad down and hand move the jack to it.

The first trip, the first jack I used the rod on I bent. And, honestly, with the BAL leveler and chock in use, the stabilizer jacks are for security.

I keep mine in the tow vehicle itself and not in the camper.

I like the way you describe the action.... zzzzzzzANGKKKKK! Works fabulous.

As for storage, our tools are kept in one of the pass-throughs. But we are new to RV-ing and not yet organized like the other members.
